This Week In Imports: Xenoblade The Rockstar

This Week In Imports: Xenoblade The RockstarMonolith Soft’s RPG epic Xenoblade makes its debut along with Rockstar Games.

Sure, Grand Theft Auto games have been released in Japan before, but those were from Capcom. Rockstar Japan’s first release is Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, a compilation of the two downloadable Grand Theft Auto IV episodes on a disc.

Really curious to see if Xenoblade picks up steam in Japan. The game has Nintendo powered backing, TV ads with pop stars dressed like robots, and “Xeno” in the title.

When Xenoblade makes it’s way over to US/EU (you know it will), I hope they keep the box art. It looks to be a pretty solid RPG though, I’m sure it’ll do well.

We will see, I’m not confident that the Wii can push good numbers for an RPG. Not that we have much to go off, but no matter the territory if its not Mario or Monster Hunter the Wii’s software sales are not what they should be.

      • SeventhEvening

In general, you’re entirely right. First party games sell like mad, but all the good third party titles are outsold by shovelware crap. Monster Hunter is pretty much the only exception.

I’m pretty sure they’re gonna throw in some crappy character renders for EU/NA version. >_<

*sigh* At "Star Successor" and its boxart.

wait, the US cover of Sin & Punishment 2 does use the original illustration right, even though it’s different than the Jpn one. I thought it’s awesome looking.

How can it use the original illustration but be different? NAhttp://resetglitch.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/…JPhttp://www.nineinchsandwich.com/wp-content/uplo

The NA version looks like they got another artist to try and mimic the JP style. Though I might be completely wrong. Still I don’t see why they had to change it in the first place. I love the JP version. EU got a weird reversible kinda cover. It was like a slightly modified version of the JP cover

No, what I meant was the US cover looks like another piece of artwork done by the Jpn artist (unless I’m wrong), not the exact same picture, or the usual montage of 3D char’s faces thrown together. The Jpn cover is cool, I picked up a used copy from Book Off for $35. But the US cover looks very good to me too that I don’t mind double dipping on this game. It definitely doesn’t look like say the US Blue Dragon cover, which is clearly drawn by an American artist looking like cartoon.Still, I don’t blame them if it’s a business decision, artistic vs. conveying the game content to the audience. For example, Heavy Rain’s Jpn and US cover,US,http://www.nerdsociety.com/wp-content/uploads/2…Jpn,http://assets.vg247.com/current//2010/01/heavy-…The US one looks like a detective drama w/ the entire cast and bloody origami figure from the serieal killer, which is what the game is about, the Jpn one is weird but more artistic and metaphorical. Guess which one moves more copies. Also it’s just personal taste you know. I liked the Jpn Fragile cover, but also liked the US one at the same time, I know it’s reversible, but the art is done by Jpn, just another piece of illustration.

Also a lot of times I pick up both Jpn and US copies of the same game, and I would prefer them not using the exact same cover, a little boring.

Which just proves a point which is tragically mute to many western publishers; respect the intentions of the original artists. Besides most ‘casual’ gamers are more aware than western publishers care to admit. Judging a book by its cover in most cases need not apply.

    • RAVENKam

I expect a more character focused cover for any possible US release as is usually the case. EU territories tend to receive more faithful if not identical representations of original JPN cover art.

I can’t wait to hear more about Xenoblade from importers.

    • Aoshi00

Well, hopefully I’d get my copy from P-A soon (might take 2 weeks…) and you’d hear me either showering the game w/ praise or w/ hate lol, I hope it’s the former.

Yea, the Jpn Xenoblade cover is pretty badass.

What’s the deal w/ the girl’s head being pasted onto a CG robotic body, got to hand it to Jpn when it comes to weird ads.. I say “off w/ her head!” (just watched “Alice in Wonderland”)
