Compile Heart Countdown Is For Record Of Agarest 2

By Spencer . June 8, 2010 . 7:11pm

Compile Heart Countdown Is For Record Of Agarest 2 That countdown on Compile Heart’s site? It’s for Record of Agarest 2. Famitsu featured the game in this week’s issue, which probably isn’t surprising since we mentioned it back in March.

Like the other Record of Agarest War games, this title also has a multi-generational story and the soul breeding system for creating the next hero. The article in Famitsu notes an improved battle system. Expect new skills, including a special skill where all of the characters team up.

Compile Heart is also enhancing the game with an improved active animation system (AAS) for facial expressions and more events with the girls. The big twist is events aren’t just with the protagonist. Heroines can also have events with sub-characters.

Record of Agarest War 2 is on track for fall in Japan.

Plz, plz, Aksys or somebody pick up this and the prequel. I loved the first, and would love to see these especially after watching a preview of the prequel. And when the hell is our damn Ar Tonelico 3 coming!? I know it has nothing to do with this series, but it is the ps3 rpg I’ve been waiting for.

Give it to Atlus, not Aksys. Still have a bad taste in my mouth from how they handled the first one for PS3.

If you meant the translation – The European Collector’s Edition was handled by Ghostlight, which uh… had a curious editting process.

In comparison, I understand the Arksys version at least was editted properly.

        • Ereek

Actually, I think he was talking about it being Digital-only. There were a few people on here complaining about that a while back.

      • Artavasdus

As Aksys stated multiple times, the choice to release Agarest’s Ps3 version only-dd wasn’t theirs, even if they couldn’t say anything more (probably for legal reasons).

The most credited possibility is that SCEA enacted her hated “only japanese dub? no retail release” rule, even if Yakuza 3 managed to avoid it while doing exactly the same. That said, Yakuza 3 is a Ps3 exclusive and a big title sales-wise (in Japan), and Sega is a publisher SCEA probably wants to please, while Agarest is an obscure, niche game and Aksys is a small publisher.

Here’s to hoping it has an improved dating system as well. Not just the bare-bones.

    • Artavasdus

I think you have to blame Aksys’ marketing more than Agarest’s developers. In Japan and Europe the game was promoted as a tactical jrpg with a bit of innuendo, and no one was surprised to see that the dating sim element was only a part of the whole.

In the USA, however, the game was marketed as borderline hentai material, and it isn’t strange that many of its fans felt cheated since the game is quite mild and many of its spicier scenes are optional and missables.

      • Ereek

Erm, I didn’t even play the American version. I knew what I was going into. I agree about Aksys’ marketing though, definitely not representative of the whole. But hey, sex sells, what can I say?

        It’s just they call it a dating-sim and it’s really. . .not.

        • Artavasdus

Sorry, I thought you played Aksys’ version since many american users are feeling a bit betrayed by the lack of dating sim elements :P

That said I agree with you, that element is at best a small part of Agarest, even if it helps defining the series’ identity.

here’s hoping for a Disc base release for the PS3 in the west

  • Zeonsilt

    I hope for English version and PS3 Collector’s Edition(and for Zero ><)

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Compile Heart is/was shopping around for someone to publish Agarest Zero so there’s a chance…

      • Artavasdus

Let’s hope Aksys is pleased with Agarest’s sales, I wonder if there is legit data on that topic (not vgchartz, I mean :P).

    OMG ME WANT IT!!!!

  • masuto

    Dear Aksys,
Please consider releasing Agarest Zero and then Agarest 2. Please do not degrade the game by marketing it as a semi-hentai game when in full, it is not. Please work with Sony and have the game fully voiced and in retail. Please focus more on representing the game as a unique SRPG with an interesting soul-breeding system and a fun dating sim instead of some cheesy insert innuendo game. Please target this game not just to those hardcore anime fans but also to other audience as well because it doesn’t hurt to target more than less. Thanks.

More grindy fanservice mess from Grindea Factory. They should just go to PC porn games and languish in obscurity.
