We Saw The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D

3DS_ZeldaOT_01ss01_E3The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is leaping on to the Nintendo 3DS and we saw a quick demo of it at E3.

Nintendo took the opening movie from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and applied their 3DS magic to it. The added depth from the 3D effect expands the draw distance when Link runs towards Hyrule Castle.

Since the demo was a movie I played with the depth switch again. You can slide the switch back and forth rapidly. I tried it. When I did that it seemed like the graphics expanded when in 3D and squished together to make regular graphics when the slider was all the way down.

During the developer roundtable, Eiji Aonuma explained The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D utilizes the touch screen for item management. Instead of wading through menus to take the iron boots on and off in the water temple, the 3DS version assigns this function to the touch screen. Changing outfits works the same way.

Maybe it’s been a while for me (which probably means I need to replay it), but those graphics look… brighter than the original OoT? Either way, it’s a nice transition.
I wouldn’t mind playing OoT on the 3DS.

i think the graphics are a bit better. i recall OoT being rather blocky.

As expected from Nintendo, their launch titles for handhelds are mostly ports/remakes. The good stuff comes later.

    • You can’t get much better that Ocarina of time, it’s made ALOT of top ten lists, often in the top five.

    • We are not talking about a “port” here WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ZELDA OoT, THE Zelda, PORTABLE!!!, AND 3D STYLE!

Out of the announced games from Nintendo, it’s actually favoring new games (6 to 3). OOT, Starfox 64 and (maybe) Animal Crossing being the only ports/remakes.

      • puchinri

The Animal Crossing game itself is even looking like a new game and not an actual port or remake, going by the small change in look. (Not that I would mind if it was a remake of the GC/64 one with bits and pieces from WW and CF.)

  • Ok im even more sold now, i will get this ds for sure..

Graphically this looks great, though it was just another movie. We will have to see what 3DS can do in a real time environment, also I hope 3DS has good anti aliasing as jaggies on screens of that size would make the games look terrible (also anyone know the native resolution of the 3DS? it looks to be lower then PSP’s 480×272). Though I still think the 3DS’s screens are way too small, so I will likely wait for the inevitable re-design 9-12 months after release.
