Ni No Kuni And Giant Magic Book Comes To Nintendo DS In December

By Spencer . June 24, 2010 . 1:52am

imageNintendo DS owners get to experience the world of Ni no Kuni first. Level 5 and Studio Ghibli have their Nintendo DS game, Ni no Kuni: The Jet Black Wizard, slated for December 9.

Each copy ships with a Magic Master, a tangible magic book with rune commands. You can draw runes on the touch screen to cast spells.

The Nintendo DS cart and the Magic Master are bundled together for 6,800 yen ($75).

So wait, they are two different games?

    • Kibbitz

Sounds like it, with this being Jet Black Wizard and the other being Queen of the White Holy Ash or something?

Did you really think there was going to be a cross-platform DS-PS3 identical game? O_o

I think i know what you mean, no, the ps3 version and this version will be the same (storywise), the game is pretty big itself i think (it will also be using the 4 gigs game cards for DS) but maybe, they will put more story or w/e (events, quest, etc) in ps3 ver, since i dont think just putting nice graphics will make that much of space for a blueray disc…. i mean, it might end up taking the same space as a ps2 game… this last thing is just my assumption though, dont quote me.

I’ll buy both if Level-5 brought them over.

That’d be nice if this came to the West, but I wouldn’t be surprised if our Magic Book was a digital download that we can print out at home. Also, it’d be in black and white.

As before I no longer have an interest in the DS version. Kind of a good thing as I have way too many DS RPGs I have yet to start, so this would likely never get played.

I think the bundled rune book is a lovely touch, it definitely helps to give the image that the player is really casting spells out of a magic book.

(For some reason I’m reminded of the old Dr. Brain game which came with a “logbook” full of information needed for the game… ah, the memories.)

Day 1. Make it happen L5. (with that book included, I’m willing to pay more for it if need be).
