imageDownloadable demos on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live are commonplace, but what about PS3 owners who don’t connect their console to the Internet? Square Enix has something for luddites, a rentable demo disc.

Square Enix Magazine Demo Disc Vol. 1 has trial versions of the following games:

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days
Just Cause 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Thexder Neo
Crystal Defenders

Plus trailers for: Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XIII, The 3rd Birthday, Front Mission Evolved, Mindjack, Deus Ex, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Singularity, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, Blur, Just Cause 2, Nier Replicant, Trine, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Thexder Neo.

If you’re in Japan, Square Enix Magazine Demo Disc Vol. 1 will be available in Tsutaya on August 12. The demo disc is free to rent. If you want one for keeps buy this week’s issue of Famitsu. The magazine plans to give 1,000 of these away, which means this will surely by a collectable item in the future.

Most people write them off, but I know these little guys are real keepers.
