Classics HD Line Coming To PlayStation 3?

By Spencer . June 27, 2010 . 12:05am

imageThe Sly Collection, a compilation of the three Sly Cooper games for the PlayStation 2, sports a “Classics HD” label on its European cover art. That’s in addition to “only on PlayStation”, PEGI, and two PlayStation move bumpers. Gotta love how Carmelita Fox is staring at the logos with disdain.

Anyway, we’re more interested in the Classics HD bumper, especially because Sony Computer Entertainment hasn’t said anything about it. If Sony is starting one up I’d love to see Ico and Shadow of the Colossus join it.

Thanks for the tip Babar!

Final Fantasy Collection. Or at least XII International edition in HD and in full english please.

    • Of all the Final Fantasy games for them to remake in HD, XII is the last one I think most people would want.

      • MrRobbyM

Except it isn’t a remake. And not as many people hated XII (well, at least in NA) as most people think.

        • I do not personally know a single fan of XII, except on internet forums. In fact, I know a few people who only bought XIII after being assured that it was not like XII (i.e., the characters actually had personality, there was an actual story, the battles didn’t play themselves, etc…)

          • MrRobbyM

Well then, that’s just sad. I know lots of XII fans. I know there’s alot of people that didn’t like it, but I’m just saying it’s not as many as you may think. And we all know how much hate XIII got.

EDIT:Can’t reply to Charles’ comment(below this comment). But It seems I’ve been replying to a troll all along. Oh well.

“XII is vastly overrated.” Really? I thought you said it was mostly hated.

          • XIII is vastly underrated. XII is vastly overrated.

Any game where I can fall asleep during a boss fight and not lose has problems.

          • You are seriously kidding me. You must be the only person on earth then, who didn’t experience something along those lines. Boss battles where you could hide in the corner and let the computer do the work and, as I said, one of them, where I actually dozed off, only to find that we had won when I woke up. The gambit system pretty much played the game for you, and as long as you had one character set to heal and resurrect, you didn’t even have to play once you were a few hours into the game.

          • Overrated by critics.

Just a complete collection (in HD) for PS3 with the international versions of X, X-2 and XII would be awesome :O

        • Aoshi00

I would buy them all even if they’re sold separately :) even though I didn’t like XII that much, it would be nice to see all of them in HD. I wonder how much better they would look though compared to playing the PS2 games on the phat upscaled, at least X and X-2 would get wide screen + trophies.

          • Now, X and X-2 upscaled with trophies, I think I would definitely buy.

  • Ancavge

    Ratchet & Clank Collection

  • TTTT

wow, so many different labels and tags on the cover of the game that it is hard to figure out what the name of game is!

but yeah, classics HD sounds great to me!

  • ZeroBlitz

I wouldn’t mind a ZoE Classics HD pack in preparation for an eventual sequel.

Other possibilities that come to mind are Grandia, Dark Cloud, DQ8/Rogue Galaxy, Persona, Viewtiful Joe, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, Burnout and TimeSplitters.

Like most everyone else, my most anticipated HD re-masters would have to be MGS and Ico/SotC. How awesome would they be if they used 1:1 sword control in these games with Move? Also imagine having to hold the controller in the actual position in order to take Yorda’s hand while you feel the light vibrations as they run – quite immersive.

    • Devil May Cry and MGS seem like no brainers for this, really.

Grandia, I haven’t liked any of them since the second half of 2, so I wouldn’t buy that, but most of your other ideas, I like (with the exception of Burnout, as I don’t like racing games and Timesplitters, which I think I’m the only person on earth who has never played it, despite everyone raving about how good it is).

I think the Classics HD line would be an excellent chance to bring some great PS2 titles that never left Japan, specially if they can be available at a lower price at PSN. Of course, all those great Tales games that never came to these shores would be a no-brainer… then again Bandai Namco USA has no brain…

  • After playing Yakuza 3, I think the first two (with the first one having the original Japanese dub available) would be a great choice for this line.

  • cmurph666

Devil May Cry 1-3 HD. ‘Nuff Said.

    • Kris

Actually, it could just be DMC 1&3 HD! They could re-do DMC2 in 3’s style if they really wanted to be nice.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Can anyone tell me where I can order the “Badass Goichi Suda HD Collection (Samurai Champloo, Blood + and Killer 7)”?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Jak And Ratchet please. Also PLEASE do a God of War Collection in a few years of the two PSP games!!

    • I was pretty disappointed that “Chains of Olympus” was not on the God of War Collection, myself.

  • neo_firenze

Being realistic, first party PS2 releases are the most likely candidates for HD PS3 re-releases. With that in mind, a Jak & Daxter collection, Ratchet & Clank collection, and Ico/SotC pack are probably the most realistic possibilities in my mind.

  • Aw man i hope so there were many great ps2 games that have yet to make the trasition to ps3 which i have been waiting for.!!!

  • Kris

I am shocked that nobody has mentioned Metal Gear HD yet! That would be awesome! Think of Snake Eater at 60 FPS O_o
Also, the SMT games could be cool if they went HD!

  • ElTopo

I wouldnt mind an xenosaga pack…

  • ElTopo

I wouldnt mind an Xenosaga HD line…

  • mikanko

I don’t realistically see any games not published by Sony making this collection. Ratchet, Jak, and ICO/SotC are all possibilities. For RPGs the only thing I can think of is Wild Arms (published by Sony in Japan at least?), but that’s still a bit dubious. I don’t see Squeenix, Capcom, Konami etc. spending their own resources to update last gen games the way Sly is being cleaned up and 3d’ized etc.

    • I do recall Capcom saying they liked this idea. I mean, come on, the only company that re-releases their games more than Capcom would be Squeenix. I don’t see others doing it, though, even though a Metal Gear Collection would sell immensely on PS3.

  • We need to see Yakuza and Yakuza 2 HD.

I’m playing Yakuza now, man, I want a PS3 for when I eventually reach the third one.

I can see why there are so many sequels, I’ll never get sick of this!

(between Yakuza and Symphony of the Night, this is a great summer as far as gaming goes)
