The First Trailer Of The Last Story

The stargazing tower scene in The Last Story comes to life after a battle with one of the game’s ferocious beasts.

 

 

Mistwalker’s real time battle system is intriguing. The main character, maybe, pulled an enemy by sneaking around walls and hitting it with his crossbow. There appears to be a decent amount of interaction with background objects. We saw one character back flip off a stone column and use crates for cover.

 

Nintendo still has The Last Story on track for release this year in Japan.

    Okay, I may not have bought a Wii yet, but that’s only because the English version of this game has yet to be announced!

    The battle system looks fun, nice graphics and music and I think I heard some of my favorite voice actors in there. I think I’ll be importing this for sure.

    It looks like a cavia-esque action RPG in style with a full AI squad working with you. Interesting.

      More Cavia-like and less S-E-like is always a good thing. The chars are indeed talkative, I like it.

        Yes it is. Especially because it is an action RPG. I think even if Artoon is making this it’s obvious where they’ve taken influence from here, and both cavia and Artoon are AQI companies anyway.

      I agree, something about the animation, especially in the city. The presentation and gameplay are both different from what I expected, for the gameplay that can be a good thing but the presentation… at least they still have some time to polish the game.

        I agree. I think it’s just some of the characters look stiff. Especially when the guy is running through town. I hope they fix that before release.

        I actually like the town a lot. Not only the design but also how people actually reacted and tried to avoid you when the main chara bumped into them.

    i hate to nitpick….but i just wish this wasnt a wii game…. or that the wii had decent hd that didnt make stuff look pixelated on my 42” >.< game looks so good

      Yours was more than a mere nitpick. Yours was wishing for the moon. This game is published by Nintendo themselves!

      Perhaps if you get one of those 3rd VGA cables or upscalers…

        i bought actual hd cables for the wii, and i just feel that they actually make the image look worse, we were playing NSMB wii at the time and using the wii’s hd setting and it just looked….pixelated…..

          You should try looking into VDigi’s upscalers or their VGA cables. Also, I would suggest turning your HDs sharpness down a bit. It helps.

          That’s bad post processing from your HDTV. Panasonic, Sharp Aquos, top range Philips (the low range ones suck hard) and Pionner are pretty much the only brands doing it right.

          Lower the sharpness to the lowest, it’s everything you can do, but it’s not the console’s fault.

          Bravia’s use Samsung screens actually.

          What you describe is the symptom of poor post processing capabilities. good upscale won’t make the image HD, but it won’t make it worse, which apparently is the case.

    You got Gears of War in my JRPG! The cover system seems weird, but I’m always up for another variation on FF12-derived combat. The quasi-gothic aesthetic seems neat, too.

    It’s also nice to see Wii games that actually lend credence to the fact that the Wii is about on par, graphically, with the Xbox. Too many of them end up looking like budget PS2 games. I’d still rather have this on an HD console, mind you.

      the Wii is not “about on par”… GC was on par on some areas and even fared better than Xbox in some *important* stuff (for example effective memory bandwidth and latency, realworld polygons per second output and gpu/cpu gigaflops, as well as less hit when doing emboss bump mapping than on Xbox; oh and free Z-buffer, Xbox didn’t have one, so it had to use it’s own RAM for that, which was at least 8 MB less RAM at all times). Of course discs had only 1.5 GB, the RAM was way faster but limited to a main 24 MB bank and it didn’t have vertex shaders which means stuff with too much bones would eventually task the CPU itself, unlike on the Xbox. Also, because Xbox used a off the shelf GPU, it was prepared to render at higher resolutions at games like Soul Calibur 2 720p with less hit than the GC one would have; in fact, the GC one couldn’t do it at all, same with the wii.

      This looks easily better than pretty much anything Xbox pulled, specially with this complexity; it deserves credit not for being “onpar” with whatever the black box did back then.

    Looks great but did anyone else notice, I didn’t see them playing as anyone but Elza for the whole trailer. Does that mean Elza will be the only playable character? If so that’s pretty dissapointing.

    Well, it’s a Sakaguchi game, so it’s worth getting excited over. But that was one helluva seriously underwhelming trailer…

    Also…awkward running animation is awkward?

    Finally! Looks awesome and beautiful. I like how people react when you bump into them in town too (even though GTA IV & Assassin’s Creed have them too but they’re different type of games). The artistic design is much better to my liking, compared to Xenoblade (I liked Xenoblade’s world, but not so much the chars’ looks). As always, any Sakaguchi game (Blue Dragon/ASH/Lost Odyssey) will be worth day 1 import I’m sure. Throw in some pre-order bonus! :)

    Overall looks awesome. Only regret is that it’s not a turn-based RPG. Minor nitpick: wish the town had more color. But even then, this game looks amazing~ Nintendo better bring this over and make up for us not getting ASH.

    I’m excited for this game. The presentation is great. The developers are really putting effort into this game unlike most. I hope this does well and encourages developers to really work hard when making a Wii game.
