Capcom Bringing Arcade Classics To Wii

By Spencer . July 16, 2010 . 11:13am

imageVirtual Console Arcade launched in Japan with a ton of games Namco Bandai and then fizzled out. Now Capcom is contributing their arcade classics starting with Sonson.

Sonson is an auto-scrolling game loosely inspired by the Journey to the West fable. You control Sonson who shoots bullets and collects fruit. See how there are multiple platforms? Sonson can jump up or down to walk on different paths.

Capcom plans to release Sonson as a downloadable Virtual Console Arcade game for Wii this summer. Plans for a North American release have not been announced at this time.

Did Capcom also redefine the word “Classic”?

I hope this will lead to the US console debuts of Cyberbots, Red Earth, among others.

Cyberbots maybe, but CPS3 fare like Red Earth is probably off the table due to Wii’s size restrictions. Anything on CPS2 or older should technically be game though.

I remember playing this when I was a kid, I welcome oldies like this or Ninja Jajamaru-kun, hearing the music brings me back :) I would get this and Enslaved to celebrate Journey to the West.

Will enough people even buy this with the PS2/PS1 Classic Collections available? Sure, someone could use the “Capcom Classic Collection has input lag” argument, but how many really care?
