Red Katana Is Cave’s Next Shooter

By Spencer . July 16, 2010 . 4:50am

imageCave is about to release a brand new shooter for arcades. It’s called Red Katana and you can play it next week if you’re around Tokyo.

Hey in Akihabara is holding a Red Katana location test from July 23 to the 26. Cave also posted a teaser trailer, which… doesn’t have any gameplay footage. We’ll have to wait a week to see how many bullets Cave can fill the screen with.

    looks promising but hori …

  • malek86

Great, but hopefully it will be ported to the 360 quickly. Can’t exactly buy myself a cabinet.

Edit: oh wait, it’s a horizontal scroller? Nevermind then, they can keep it.

    • Hraesvelgr

Really? I’d welcome more horizontals, vertical is too overdone.

      • Aoshi00

I agree, I like both but there are so many verticals and only a handful of horizontals now. I just hope it’s 2D and not 3D like Deathsmiles II X… hoping for a quick 360 port as well.

      • malek86

I don’t like horizontals. Maybe I’m too used to seeing bullets come from above.

    • Turn your TV on its side!

  • nyoron

Neat, I actually will be around Tokyo next week so if I happen to find this I’ll check it out.

  • Ugh a hori? I hate horis.

  • So I take it nobody here enjoyed Deathsmiles?

    • I’ve been rocking Deathsmiles all week! Whatchu talkin’ bout?

      • When I wrote that, half the comments were about how horizontal shmups are stupid.

        • Justinzero

Yeah, I don’t understand the hori hate as well. I am a huge fan of pro gear.

          • And I’m a Gradius fan first, so maybe the fans of obstacle-filled levels and fans of bullet-filled games just don’t mix.

        • I’d wonder how people here did against Life Force/Salamander back in the day that put both of them together.

Horizontal versus Vertical shouldn’t matter so long as the game is fun to play.

          • I want to see a Salamander ReBirth. I liked the second game a lot, so it’s a shame we haven’t seen anything like it since.

  • In other news Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu was announced for Iphone / Ipod touch.

    • They really shouldn’t market it saying “iPhone/iPod Touch” they should be specific “iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4/iPod Touch Blah Edition”. That’s like advertising a “DSi only” game as a “DS” game…

    • Aoshi00

Too bad it’s not ported to 360 first.. I don’t know when I would get an Ipod touch or Iphone :(…

    • superdry

Booo…I hope that the money made on selling the iphone/ipod touch version goes towards a 360. With Espgaluda II and now this, I now contemplate on getting an iphone when my current phone contract ends.

After the debacle that was DDPDOJBLEX (oh where art thou Mr. Patch for the game?), the 360 needs a port of Dai-Fukkatsu.

  • Looking forward to loketest footage. It’ll certainly be a spectacle to behold, at least, even if I’m not sure I’ll be into the game. (People are guessing this will be a spiritual successor to Progear, which I never really got into.)Hopefully they’ll have some of the Daifukkatsu BL or Pink Sweets composers on soundtrack duty instead of all Namiki. More Yoshimi Kudo and Kizakura PLZ. (Roping in Shinji Hosoe and/or Yuzo Koshiro would be awesome, even if it was only for an AST…but I’m really dreaming now haha.)

  • will this translated as “Red Steel” in US?

  • I know the rumor is that its a Progear-like, warplane shooter, but have you guys seen the video?? Characters with katanas? Cherry Blossoms? Smells more like Guwange to me…
