Arc Rise Fantasia Is In Some Stores Now

By Spencer . July 20, 2010 . 10:55am

imageIgnition set Arc Rise Fantasia’s release date as July 27, a week after the game ships to stores. Confusing? You bet.

But, here’s good news if you’ve been waiting for Arc Rise Fantasia. Some brick and mortar Gamestops have Imageepoch’s Wii RPG in stock now. Might want to call and check first before driving down or if any readers picked up a copy let us know where wild Arc Rise Fantasia copies are.

Thanks to Snape and David B. for the tip!

I thought you were going to call me…”girl.” Do you call everyone…”girl.”

  • TomSkylark

Any news yet on whether or not this is worth picking up? It looks arright, but I’ve been burned so many times by the few Wii RPG’s out there that I’m, well, a bit justifiably paranoid now.

How much does the voice acting and script matter to you? If a lot, bail out. If relatively little, I’m told it’s a pretty good game thanks to its combat system.

      • DanteJones

I was pretty stoked for this game until those trailers with the english voice acting were released, then…. yeah, not so much.

Why script? as far as i know, the only problem is voice acting because:
        1) it sucks 2) doesn’t match with the script.

But the script itself should be fine, if you disable the voices there shouldn’t be any problem

        • gatotsu911

“Script” because the localization (at least, what can be gleaned from screenshots) is freaking terrible, and I doubt the original script was Shakespeare to begin with.

        • http://www.myspace.com/effluentrainfall Effluent Rainfall

Basically, what gatotsu911 said. It looks abhorrent in every sense and I’m far less forgiving of localization efforts than I used to be. Heck, it’s often a deciding factor in my purchase of a game relative to its contemporaries, and I truthfully can’t recall the last time I played a RPG with a script and VA as stilted and awkward as Arc Rise Fantasia’s appears. With the advent of companies such as Atlus USA, NISA, XSEED and the like, there’s simply no longer any excuse for this. I’m playing Dragon Quest IX this very moment and there are amusing, smile-inducing tidbits sprinkled throughout the experience; SE did a spectacular job with it.Before that, I played Nier, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Final Fantasy XIII and Resonance of Fate, all of which had strong localizations. I’m not sure I’m willing to tolerate Ignition’s brand of swill anymore.

i thought nintendo localized dragon quest 9… o.o Anyway, im buying this because is an rpg made by the great marvelous entertainmet, too bad, it seems many people wont get it because of ignition, but this wont change the fact it was made by marvelous…, anyway, i wont talk bad about this game until i have it in my hands, the screenshots cant really be a base where you can say “this script sucks”… (this is to the post below me, but didnt wanted too spam myself here xD)

          • http://www.myspace.com/effluentrainfall Effluent Rainfall

As I understand it, Square Enix localized Dragon Quest IX and Nintendo published and marketed it.

          • vrakanox

I agree. I’ve heard the voice acting myself and while it’s definately not up to par with others It definately doesn’t seem game breaking. It looks like a solid RPG title I guess some people will love it and others wont.

The voice acting might be bad, but missing a Marvelous game altogether because of Ignition’s less than stellar localization is a pity, just like Muramasa the Demon Blade. That and Arc Rise Fantasia really are good games (I’ve only played several hrs of the import though). I know we’re used to really good localization these days, Nier, FF13, Phoenix Wright, etc, I think I could swallow the bad acting here, if not just turn off the voices. I think I’ll play it safe and go back to the Jpn ver. first though (guess for me personally there’s no incentive to pick up the Eng. ver..). Maybe when there’s a sale later, then I’ll collect this, sry Ignition.

Nintendo localized Dragon Quest IX, more specifically their own Threehouse branch.

          • http://www.myspace.com/effluentrainfall Effluent Rainfall

Are you certain? I’ve read otherwise on numerous sites like Joystiq, but I obviously can’t confirm it personally. The thing is, the script bears a striking resemblance to Plus Alpha’s Dragon Quest IV/V works and I can’t begin to imagine Treehouse executing such a masterful imitation.

            Perhaps I’m wrong, though.

          • Joanna

Maybe it was a joint project? SE did the initial scrip and Nintendo did touch up?

          • lostinblue

I’m certain treehouse localized it, even was said at this years E3 conference. That said I also heard the localization was already underway when nintendo joined, and if so the transition shouldn’t have been abrupt, more like a cooperation? It’s not like treehouse would start over in a game with so much text, I think.

But we clearly lack info, treehouse translated it though.

Also, treehouse are really talented, the stuff the guys do with mario & luigi and paper mario scripts is masterful.

Mostly in Canada from what I gather. While I live in Canada right now I am too sick to go out and get it which makes me very very sad. Because we all know that sometimes you just need a new game while you’re sick to make it all go away.

Coooool, ive been starving for a console classic rpg style for a while >8D and this one is finally so close

I’ll wait for the price drop to happen. Besides, all Ignition could’ve done was offer Japanese voices or the option to mute the said Japanese voice acting, instead of this mess Ignition left us with.It would be more painless on my wallet if I just wait instead.

Amazon isn’t shipping to pre-orders yet, just in case anyone was wondering.

    • ThunderGod_Cid

Goddammit!Oh well, I just started playing Trinity Universe, so it’ll be a while before I’d touch it anyway……

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1264335302 facebook-1264335302

Thank God, I need to put the $$ in the bank tomorrow for my preorder before they try to charge my account XD

  • lostinblue

I’m not getting it at all. Not after Ignition touched it the way they did, they don’t deserve my money, only by bitterness towards them.

Hopefully Rising Star will fix this game for the PAL release and I’ll buy it at a high price, as is, I won’t even give $10 for it.

I miss the days when VA wasn’t a big deal and people used their IMAGINATIONS. It’s like, a chore to read now. All I hear is people complaining about Japanese VAs. That’s what importing is for.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

Oh, it’s coming out in NA? Time for an import.

  • Roses4Aria

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon back in May when the release date was still set for June and they’ve changed the delivery date on me twice now. I was beginning to think I was never going to get it. Despite the less than stellar VA, I’m really looking forward to playing it. I can tolerate pretty much anything if the gameplay and story are good. :)
