Vanquish’s Casual Automatic Mode Will Make You Jump And Say “Woohoo!”

Following in the footsteps of Bayonetta, Platinum Games created a casual automatic level of difficulty for Vanquish. Shinji Mikami, Director, recommends normal, but casual auto was created to make Vanquish more accessible. And, in the words of Mikami, it’s surprisingly fun.

“Before we started work on it, I can’t say that I had high hopes; however, once we got it up and running, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was wrong. Once you get your target on the enemy, the rest is easy as pie. I’m sure saying it that way makes it sound totally uninteresting, but when you actually give it a shot, the tempo it gives the game play will make you jump up and say, ‘Woohoo!’,” Mikami blogged.

Don’t worry Vanquish has something for third person shooter pros and God Hand fans. Masochists can unlock and play Vanquish in God Hard mode.

I think it’s great Platinum include a super easy mode like this (is it “look one hand ma!” like Bayonetta?), usually I just play on normal, I would try playing hard a little but it’s beyond me. I’m not one of those people who can pull super combo in DMC kind of game getting 1000 achievement/100% trophy, so switching to easy w/ Bayonetta, I couldn’t believe it, I was like “holy, am I doing all these beautiful moves flying across the screen non-stop!?”I still haven’t even beaten Mega Man 10 on easy yet :( (couldn’t beat that blocky eyeball monster..)

We saw other developers get away with poor design due to excessive check points, reverse time mechanics or save-and-reload-everywhere system. Casual mode would fit in there as well.

While I think Platinum Games are experienced enough to not let this influence their games (most of the time, I felt Madworld had a score counter to make up for the lack of aggressive enemies), I’m against the idea in general.

I want to jet boost into enemies and clothesline them.

Good idea as long as they also cater to the high end of skill.
