Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 Critically Compared

By Spencer . August 2, 2010 . 2:51pm

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 will be the first Naruto game from CyberConnect2 on the Xbox 360. How does the game look on each platform?

Game blog PS360 posted detailed analysis of the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 demo, which was released on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live last week. These videos show the same fight on both consoles with corresponding frame rate charts.

Finally, a game that is made for each console, not made for the xbox and then ported to ps3

actually there are more then a few titles that fall into this category. Though I would suspect in this case it has more to do with the teams experience with PS3. The important thing is that both seem close enough to one another, which is often not the case when 360 is the lead platform.

i know there are more D:, but lately (red dead redemption for example) all the games are obviously made for xbox and then ported to ps3, since is pretty hard, for not to say impossible, for the xbox to play something made for the ps3.
PS: im not saying one console is superior to other, im just saying one have more graphical/ram w/e power than other, and we all must accept these facts -.-.

That’s not the problem. The problem is that it’s difficult to make a game for the PS3 first, so they make it for the 360 first. The fact that the PS3 is more powerful, well, that’s not even something that should be considered. If they want to make a game for both platforms, they’ll have to make it so that it runs on both. That’s regardless of which platform gets chosen first. Notice that, even when they make the two versions from scratch, or even when they start on the PS3 (ex. Burnout Paradise), the PS3 version still doesn’t really get any noticeable graphical boost. It’s also a matter of contract, because MS has a policy where the 360 version of a multiplatform game must not look noticeably worse than its counterpart. Perhaps Sony should have tried with it too.

    PS3 wins! lol…

  • zhemos

360 is sharper, while the ps3 is more vibrant and smooth. Frame rates are about the same. Once they’re both running you won’t be able to tell much difference.

Owning both system myself I plan to get it on the PS3, mainly because of the PSN online community. People on xbox live are assholes.

I buy fighting games on PS3 primarily because the d pad actually works, where as the 360 d pads have way too many dead spots directional mix ups (I sometimes laugh at how bad it is just for browsing the NXE dash) . Sure a real arcade rat would say “thats why you buy a arcade stick” but the good ones are so expensive and to me it’s something that should be a option for enthusiasts not a requirement. Sadly I must agree with your second comment. Live is a very robust and stable online platform, but 70% of the user base are disgusting jerks who barely qualify as human beings. Its the main reason I don’t play online with 360 (though I pay for Gold for the content and downloads). I’m not a big online gamer anyway, but my experience with the users on PSN is much better then Live.

it’s simple ones brighter and ones darker

pretty much what Im seeing too, unless there are other texture/graphical downgrades then changing the color reference levels should balance it out.

360 games ALWAYS look brighter than their PS3 counterparts. The PS3 was designed for a home cinema experience, hence the brightness is much lower, because thats actually how movies should be watched. The 360 was never designed for movie watching in mind, so the system itself has a much brighter luminosity. It makes gaming a lot better, but movie watching takes a hit.

Not very different at all, except brightness, which is always different no matter the game. That’s what I like to see. All evidence says we’ve reached the point where multi-console games can look the same

  • neocatzon

    I don’t see any differences…

  • Electrium

I prefer the 360 controller, but this would look so nice on my shelf next to the first Ninja Storm…gah, the ultimatum!

Xbox 360 version is the better lol. it won’t have shitty long ass load times and Intalls and it doesn’t have as much jaggies

Bayonetta is a bit of a particular case though. Lazy porting was involved by the part of Sega.

The other special case is FF13, but I suspect MS was already lucky enough to have stricken that deal with Squenix, they probably had to give up on their conditions. And maybe a bit of cheap porting was involved too.

Aside from these two, and from some old titles long past gone (Double Agent and a few others), PS3 and 360 games are usually very similar, even when they are made simultaneously.

Hey, can we do something about the troll, please? This isn’t Xbox Live, we shouldn’t be tolerating personal attacks.

  • thebanditking

Update for all the pixel counters out there, Seems that there is more to this then meets the eye. The 360 version runs at 1280×640 and then is stretched to 720p, the PS3 ver runs 720p native. Here is a link to the proof http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=22653241&postcount=1 this poster is very reputable as he is the one who does analysis for Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry.

Sub-HD, no AA, and they can’t even get it to run properly, so they have to lower the resolution more? And I think I remember Tekken 6 also looking a bit better on the PS3… even though, really, it didn’t look like anything the 360 couldn’t handle.

My guess is that Namco simply can’t work on the 360 to save their life. Or maybe they just don’t care, like Sega. I seriously doubt Bayonetta couldn’t have been handled better by the PS3.

What’s funny about Tekken 6 is how much Uncharted 2′s graphics ruined for me. For example, whenever characters are fighting in water, there’s a part of me that starts asking, “Why aren’t their clothes wet?” “Why isn’t the snow sticking to them?” “Why doesn’t their hair get wet?”

Looks pretty similar but judging by all the comments, the PS3 one is better.
Not only is the resolution better on the PS3, there are also details that are lost on the 360 such as the shadows on Naruto’s face in the last picture.

Either way, I’m sure both games will look and run fine.

  • rasengan280

there’s really not much of a difference in graphics but im glad to have a ps3 anyway
