Macross Trial Frontier Takes Valkyries To The HD Dimension

By Spencer . August 5, 2010 . 7:27pm

macrosst03People who pick up the Macross Frontier The Movie: The False Diva on Blu-ray are in for a treat. Namco Bandai added a PlayStation 3 game called Macross: Trial Frontier on the disc.

While it isn’t a full game, Macross: Trial Frontier will be the first Macross game for HD consoles. The PlayStation 3 title is based on Macross: Ultimate Frontier, which was released on PSP last year. Players will be able to pilot variable fighters from the movie like the YF-25 Prophecy. Screenshots below show the VF-25F, VF-25F Tornado Pack, RVF-25, VF-25G, VF-25S Armored Pack are also in the game.

How its not a full game do they mean its a demo or what?

    • its just a small game added as a bonus for the BD version of the movie that can be played using a ps3 so its not a FULL FEATURE LENGTH type of game just a small bonus added with the BD

      • So is it something like Project Diva Dreamy Theatre?

Except this doesn’t need a copy of MUF

Namco Bandai….yep, not coming outside Japan

All I need are subtitles for the movie and its a day-1 import.

  • Okay, for it right, guys. At least when FFVII: Advent Children came out on Blu-Ray in Japan, Square-Enix said that a DEMO of FFXIII was going to be included. Here, you’re just calling it, “trial” but trying to pass it off as your “debut” for Macross on an HD console. Secondly, the HUD looks very sloppily made and the overall graphics look like they were designed by some doujin PC developer.

If you want my money, you’re going to have to release a FULL game, guys. I’m not going to pay $60+ for just a movie that I won’t care to watch just so I can play this half-ass Macross “trial” game. This is what we call a, “beta” and you guys should just take the time to test it just like every other company does before releasing the full product.

So go test your game, work out the bugs, improve the graphics, and I’m guessing clunky gameplay, and bring us a FULL game. Oh and I’d like it to be similar to that SDF Macross game you released on PS2 (in Japan only of course) since that game was probably the best you’ve made in a LONG time. Just give it better graphics, more units, and more story, then you’ll have your game.

Until then, I’ll be keeping my money, thank you.

Not sure why you’re so worked up about this, it’s a small game that comes with the Bluray release. How is that so hard to understand? They’re probably using it to gauge interest in a full version of a game on Macross.Lots of other movies have done this sort of thing, where they package a small game along with the main movie. And the last time I played Macross Ace Frontier on my PSP, it wasn’t filled with bugs, so I’m not sure what you’re talking about there…

They need to release this game in USA, there are fans of Macross and Robotech that would like to play this game.

  • I don’t imagine them develop this just as a mini game for a Blu-Ray release. My bet is that it will work as a demo for a proper Macross PS3 game.
