imagePokémon Black and White isn’t even out yet, but it’s a hot seller. The next entry in the Pokémon series already passed the 1,000,000 pre-orders mark in Japan. According to games website Online Player EX, Pokémon Black and White broke the record for fastest selling Pokémon game in the region.

Pokémon Black and White comes out on September 19 in Japan. Nintendo has the game slated for spring 2011 in North America and Europe.

Let us rejoice in waiting for the Spring to play it. I wonder if it would break similar records here

I have trouble with the statement of if Pokemon is truly reaching new audiences or if it is just selling to veterans of the series…

I feel like Pokemon caters not only to the veterans, but also the youth. It’s an RPG geared toward young kids. The proposition of a young boy (or girl) going on an adventure of epic proportions is appealing to anyone, but I imagine even more so to kids, however they’re not so much out to ferociously pursue rare forms and find all of the secrets so much as they are trying to beat the elite four. Naturally, many of them see that as the end-all-be-all of the game. Then, of course there’s the older generation of people that play them. Of course we play them ferociously, seeing that point of defeating the Elite Four as just the beginning. We will spend hours in the same patches of grass hunting down rare Pokemon, only to make them faint and have to start all over again.

My point is, there’s really something for everyone in the Pokemon games, so I don’t think that its popularity can be slimmed down to one demographic.

I think one of the great things of the Pokemon franchise is that you basically start at zero in every game. Of course it helps if you know the mechanics from earlier games, but everything is explained so that someone just starting can easily pick it up as well.

Heh, sometimes I hate knowing and reading about games which lies decently far into the future. I get pumped for them and then have to bottle it up or hope I can forget about them until they finally arrive. And I am getting pumped for this game.

I’m feeling the same right now. I wish they would speed up the release a bit so it’s not half a year (like D/P/P and SS/HG) but 2-3 months difference. If they can do it with other Nintendo franchises, I’m sure they could do it with Pokemon.

I like the fact that pokemon is still holding up but I wud love it if they brought it to the Wii, like how they did wit the gamecube. I really enjoyed it. I felt it brought another dimension to the franchise. *Hopefully they will start sayin their names instead of those off-the-wall sounds* lol

It’s amazing how Pokemon is still so popular after all these years. I grew up with Pokemon and am glad it’s alive and kicking.

Has Pokemon taken over Mario as the best selling franchise?
