KOF Sky Stage Soaring To North America

imageSNK is gearing up to release their King of Fighters shooter outside of Japan. The ESRB rated KOF Sky Stage and warned parents of “large amounts of cleavage.”

KOF Sky Stage is a vertical shooter with characters from The King of Fighters series. Kyo, Iori, Terry, Mai, Athena, and Kula are playable characters and each one is armed with their own shooting techniques.

The game made its debut in arcades this year and is scheduled for release on Xbox Live Arcade this fall.

I’m hearing some pretty bad things about this game.

  • Buying.

A bigger screen would help some, definitely. Not sure if the game is really any good though.

Seriously!? They would still release this game? Why not just Neo Geo Heroes: Ultimate Shooting. That game was an improved version of Sky Stage plus characters from other SNK franchises. SNK-Playmore is always questionable in their decisions. I would be pissed-off if they didn’t at least announce a new 2D game at TGS (I’m still waiting for them to finally show the new 2D Metal Slug that they were planning years ago).

    • Probably has something to do with Ultimate Shooting being a PSP game and a shooter—two big sales obstacles outside Japan. (Plus the videos make it look like a really average doujin game IMO…)

The XBLA port will end up having at least a few of the PSP additions, I suspect.

Blegh. Time would’ve been better invested in KoFXIII.

  • I wanted the PSP game…

Why not the PSP game? Why not also for PSN? Wheres KoF XIII console announcement? Wheres KoF 2002 UM for PSN? What the hell SNK youre not even trying anymore…

  • godmars

Just as long as its not some $50 to $90 disc version for what should be a $10 to maybe a $20 DL title.

This is almost definitely referring to the XBLA version, and it shouldn’t be much surprise as XBLA releases are nearly always worldwide.

That being said… I have Neo Geo Heroes Ultimate Shooting on PSP, and after playing it I’d have a hard time going back to vanilla Sky Stage. NGHUS is nearly a whole new game (more characters, different levels, tweaked mechanics), and the UMD includes the original Sky Stage as well. I’ll still drop $10 on Sky Stage XBLA just so I can play it on my shooter setup with a stick and TATE monitor. NGHUS really is a step up though – it’s just a better game. Too bad THAT couldn’t get the XBLA port.
