Ico Follows Shadow Of The Colossus To PS3 [Update]

By Spencer . September 14, 2010 . 5:58pm

imageThe rumors about Ico and Shadow of the Colossus coming to PlayStation 3 are true. First, Walmart had Ico and the Shadow of Colossus Collection in their database. Then there was a boxart leak this morning.

Now, we have confirmation from Famitsu. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are listed in the latest issue’s table of contents as PlayStation 3 games. There’s supposedly information about The Last Guardian (aka Trico in Japan), but scans have not been released on the internet at this time.

Update: In Japan, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be released separately. Both games have been improved with HD quality visuals. Release dates have not been announced.

Shadow of the Colossus in HD? I’m sold.

  • MrRobbyM

Slap me. I knew it was coming, but I still just screamed out of joy.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Oh yes. This before going to bed, and Suda 51xMikami’s new masterpiece when I wake up.

    All is well.

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Yeah, I already read a bit about the scans, but I can’t seem to find them!

As for the scan, what the hell, Yakuza: 28 Days Later? Guns? Zombies? What’s happening? Thanks for the pic, really appreciate finally being able to see it!

        • MrRobbyM

I’d guess it’s that Yakuza: of the end game. I guess that’s how they end it all. With a zombie apocalypse O_o

I still don’t believe it. But I kinda like the idea.

  • Aoshi00

HD w/ better frame rates + trophies = awesome :)

    • 100% agreed =D

      • Aoshi00

I look forward to bringing down a giant in a minute and hearing that sweet ding sound, the flying one should be fun :) (though I think the challenges were alrdy in the PS2 ver). Wonder if we would get the more artistic cover for Ico this time or the ugly US one lol..

SotC was a bit too beautiful for the PS2 to handle, but the slowdown did make it more cinematic..

        • Oh yeah, the flying snake was one of my favorites to fight. And the (not-flying) snake was memorable, too. I wasn’t a fan of the final boss though. Killed me too many times =(

          Yeah, the Ico cover… =|

          • Dude, that final boss didn’t even kill me but HOLY CRAP did it take a long time to finally figure out the set of events to take it down.

Either way, the game was amazing and has unmatched levels of epic.

          • Haha, yeah. Once you know what you’re doing, you shouldn’t really die on any of the bosses. Unfortunately, I never saw the cover that the game had provided to hide from those attacks for a good time…

        • Oh, yes. Please, use the original cover design this time. I’m not ever usually a stickler for box art designs, but Ico deserved better.

Hopefully, this will also mean we’ll have a chance of getting the bonuses that Japan and Europe got when they released the game there. IIRC, the watermelon ending, grainy effect, light saber, and maybe something else.

          Make it so!

        • the game certainly doesnt need trophies, but i do see your point x)

    • kupomogli

I agree. SotC really needs better framerate. Both are amazing games though.

  • How would I know if this series is for me since I didnt know a PS2 to play either individual game on. I guess if its so lauded and big online, the games were a must own?

    • MrRobbyM

      “I didn’t own a PS2”

I want an explanation for this blasphemy.

    • YoctoYotta

If you like wholly unique, beautiful, potentially emotionally affective games, you’ll probably like these an awful lot. Even the “ugly” PS2 versions are something to behold . . . with better framerates and resolutions, this will be one of the best deals around alongside Orange Box and the GoW 1&2 Collection.

      What? Care to explain yourself?

      • dieubussy

What I meant was that I personally think this situation to be idiotic and disrespectful, cowcowcow, in the sense that this re-release is vulgarizing two unique games of our time. I don’t expect many to agree with my claim, or even understand from where t is born, but nonetheless there it is.

        • How is re-releasing two games that didn’t sell particularly well and are very rare, to an audience that will eagerly play them, now with updated graphics and a lot of hype, a vulgarization?

          • dieubussy

I think you’re on to something there, Charles ;)

          • http://www.thefreedictionary.com/vulgarization1. To make vulgar; debase:2. To disseminate widely; popularize.more people will play it and it fixes technical problems with the original release, so it sucks >:*(What’s funny is that nobody in their right mind should expect this re-release to move sales mountains, even if there’s a little more hype this time around. ICO and SotC getting a second go on PS3 is a little like how Odin Sphere became a “Greatest Hits” release in the US—because it was a critically-acclaimed title that Sony wanted to give some extra support, not because it actually sold well enough to fit the original criteria.

  • I like how they make the two game separate in Japan because they know people are still going to buy both of them. Everywhere else, I think it’d make a big difference in sales

  • BraveWind

    OH YES!!!……

  • Chow

Oh, I’m gonna platinum the hell out of these games.
    On my sofa.
    From behind.

  • I am so very excited about this. I do hope they’re packaged together like the GOW and Sly Cooper Collections in NA, though. Never got a chance to play Ico and had been holding off on finishing Shadow of the Colossus once I heard this might happen.

  • Ico was one of the games I regretted not getting.

Now I have no reason to regret it. <3

  • Jayred_Potter

THERE IS LOVE IN THIS WORLD!!! This is awesome!! I could never get my hands on a european copy of Ico, so I could never get the real experiance. Now with these HD versions coming out, I might actually get the chance to play it

  • cmurph666

Man, these HD collections are awesome~!

    GoW, Sly, ICO…

Now we need Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid.

  • Nice… but I’ve been playing these games on my PS3 for the past 3+ years. ;)

  • Soma

Glad that this is finally confirmed.

Also, I want more news on The Last Guardian.
For everyone still waiting for a reason to buy a PS3, The Last Guardian is it.

  • SotC with better framerate + HD + better textures/models = ???
I’ve seen the effect of slightly better framerate and HD on the PCSX2 emulator. Going from the PS2 up to that was amazing, but the emulator is nowhere near rock-solid. If they make everything perfect, I’ll easily buy the game again, and even for $60.

  • WonderSteve

Have both games on PS2. This release is going to give me an excuse to play them all again.

  • malek86

Mh, should I buy this or not?

  • Another nail in the coffin for PS2 emulation on the PS3.

  • Kamion

    YES, YES, YES.

I never played ICO (expensive and hard to find). And now I finally will be able to. I can’t wait. Also going to replay SotC in HD.

This is the first good news for me out of this month’s Famitsu (VC3 and BBSFM meh)

  • RAVENKam

I’ve never played the originals so this couldn’t be better news for me.

  • woa! there was a post in psn blogs asking for this! this is so great lol

  • Loki

I just squealed like a little girl when I saw this, now excuse me while I go regain my manliness.

  • thebanditking

This is amazing! I will buy this day one, again awesome job Sony!

  • thaKingRocka

However much they charge for this, it is a reasonable price. If ever there were games worth 60 and up, you’re looking at them.

  • RupanIII

Nice! Was never able to track down Ico after it went oop

  • Joanna

Great news. I’ve been debating picking up SotC for PS2, but now I’ll just pick up this collection instead and get ICO too~
