Kingdom Hearts Re:coded Coming Out Sooner Rather Than Later?

imageMost RPGs from Square Enix have a nine month gap between their release in Japan and North America. The wait for Kingdom Hearts Re:coded may be shorter since the game just popped up in the ESRB’s database. Overlooking digitally distributed titles, typically ESRB game ratings are not published too far from a title’s release date.

Here’s how the game’s rating board explains Re:coded.

This is an action role-playing game in which players control a character named Sora, who must navigate a series of virtual fantasy worlds to decipher a hidden message. Players mostly use magic spells and a large key-shaped sword to strike and slash at creatures and classic Disney villains (e.g., Maleficent, Hades, Jafar). Some levels allow players to engage in top-down turn-based battles or traverse through side-scrolling levels while firing magic spells at waves of flying enemy creatures. Characters react to damage by grunting/crying out in pain or bursting into small orbs.

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Re:coded at E3, but did not announce a release window. The Nintendo DS game comes out in Japan on October 7.
