Kingdom Hearts Re:coded Coming Out Sooner Rather Than Later?

By Spencer . September 24, 2010 . 2:46am

imageMost RPGs from Square Enix have a nine month gap between their release in Japan and North America. The wait for Kingdom Hearts Re:coded may be shorter since the game just popped up in the ESRB’s database. Overlooking digitally distributed titles, typically ESRB game ratings are not published too far from a title’s release date.

Here’s how the game’s rating board explains Re:coded.

This is an action role-playing game in which players control a character named Sora, who must navigate a series of virtual fantasy worlds to decipher a hidden message. Players mostly use magic spells and a large key-shaped sword to strike and slash at creatures and classic Disney villains (e.g., Maleficent, Hades, Jafar). Some levels allow players to engage in top-down turn-based battles or traverse through side-scrolling levels while firing magic spells at waves of flying enemy creatures. Characters react to damage by grunting/crying out in pain or bursting into small orbs.

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Re:coded at E3, but did not announce a release window. The Nintendo DS game comes out in Japan on October 7.

Makes sense to get this out as soon as possible.

If it was released in 6+ months it would have to deal with diminishing shelf space and everyone wanting games for their 3DS’.

I actually think I will be passing on this one, the ones that arent on sonys systems feel like they are lower quality than the ones on sony systems, to be honest.

Of course more power onto those that buy it.

That’s because the nintendo systems literally don’t have as much power as sony systems

        Sure, that’s true now, but don’t forget that Gamecube > PS2, power-wise…

        • http://thechatcast.com/ Davis Emmanuel

          And the gamecube is dead.

Well that’s good. I guess they can get it out faster when most of the conversations are through text instead of voice acting

What?! That cant be possible, in this day and age they should be able to get Voice Acting on the DS, apart from a GBA game, every Square Enix game Ive played has tons of VA. They certainly wouldnt leave it as text with no VA, they just cant

A sooner release? Heck yea, I am all for that!
I was going to import… but this reassures me that I won’t have to do that, and then wait 9 months to figure out what the heck I just played was all about.

I guess voicing really does make a big difference in the localization process. Either that or Square is doing what they said they’d start doing earlier in the year and developing the US, EU, and JP versions almost simultaneously.

Considering that the original cell phone game had no voice acting in it, I can see how they’d be able to scrap together a translation pretty quickly. And since production of Birth by Sleep has just finished up its localization, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had already done the voice work for Re:Coded during that time.

It’s two different development teams working on those two games. I highly doubt any of the development was linked between them

Hmm ….. looks like a release in time for Christmas, I’m still going to get it the day it comes out though :P
