Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Finally Out On October 4

By Spencer . September 25, 2010 . 2:54am

imageAfter a number of console changes, the hair-whipping half-genie Shantae and lady pirate Risky Boots are finally back. Shantae: Risky’s Revenge is coming to DSiWare on October 4.

Developer WayForward originally planned to release Shantae: Risky’s Revenge in episodes. The final game, however, will be sold as a single DSiWare download for 1,200 DSiWare points ($12). That will make Shantae: Risky’s Revenge the most expensive single DSiWare download to date.

Creative director Matt Bozon says Shantae: Risky’s Revenge "pushes the action beyond what’s possible on the Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite."

Words cannot express how happy I am to see this game finally be released. The original was a real classic, and I fully expect the sequel to live up to it’s predecessor.

    • I regret never playing the original to this day and it is hella expensive to find now.

I’d better hear universally glowing reports from the gaming sites of a damn good reason why this isn’t a retail release that Steven No-I’m-Not-Trading-My-GBA-Slot-For-A-Camerason can drop thirty bucks on.

  • Oof, no longer episodic? I guess that nixes my hope for a retail compilation.

It’s a crying shame this game is only being released for the worst DD service of all the consoles and handhelds.

    • Kris

How is it the worst service? I’ve never had any problems with it, and DSiWare has more support than PSPminis or whatever.

      • Not being able to transfer games from system to system without mailing both of your consoles to Nintendo is ridiculous. (I don’t even think they’ll do that for you unless they deem one of those consoles “unplayable”, which is even worse.)

They had better announce an actual solution for the 3DS launch.

  • EvilAkito

Well, seeing as how I don’t have a DSi (or any desire to buy one), I’ll have to pass. This really should have been a WiiWare game as well.

  • Kris

I can’t wait! Took them long enough, though.

  • Pichi

    Glad to see Shantae continued!

Is Jake Kaufman doing the music again? I hope so; that was great. (Though a Nintendo handheld hasn’t had good sound since the GBC. DS is ALMOST decent.)
