Is it wrong that i thought that was Adell at first glance?

    • Hraesvelgr

      Yes.

      • skyblaze

        thought so :P

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

What its actually confirmed for next year!? This is actually pretty awesome, the north american branch better be looking into this (or into Naruto, whichever one), because I need to get my game on! This will help convince me to get 3DS in month 1.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

You have no idea what you’re talking about, do you?

      • http://www.facebook.com/keishenra Kyle D. Johnson

I’m not sure how you didn’t understand what he meant. It was pretty clear to me. (Not joking.)

        • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

What? That’s not what I meant. I was referring to the his comment, ” the north american branch better be looking into this”. I wasn’t saying that I couldn’t understand what he wrote.

          Sheesh.

  • Arcm

I once again will have to pray to the gods at namco bandai for a western release and will most likely be let down…… again.

Then again I beat this game a long time ago so I really don’t mind, unless they announce some cool new features which I’m sure they will to tease us. The 3DS better be region free.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Wow, from the looks of it, they’re… already done porting?

The more tales games they announce for Japan, the more tales fans in the west are hurting.

    • joesz

just go learn japanese, its not a language that belongs to the aliens.
that’s what could be said about this localization issue that everybody is talking about.

      • MrRobbyM

        Ignorant comment of the day.

      • kariohki

Like everyone has enough free time to learn a language on their own.

      • FireCouch

DURR I”M SMARTSZZ. I LEAERNZ CJAPANEAZE!!

      • Hraesvelgr

Now you see what happens when you talk back… sheesh, people.

        • joesz

yeah… I should have respected my superiors and said what would have satisfy them
It’s funny that people have already started the complains about localization And how people blames namco for this.

Now let’s be honest,if they were to announce a localization version of tales of graces ,rebirth and innocence,etc.. ,the games would probably be pirated by every person around the world who think its legal to have it for free.nowadays even in japan people already started pirating games, now they can’t double the losses, can they?

I just hope I’m not off topic,But mostly like the reason for these games not being localized is piracy.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The report states that only 6% of gamers download stuff…so I doubt your apocalyptic situation would occur. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/112/1123999p1.html

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tommy-Lee/518924335 Tommy Lee

According to a new report by market research firm NPD Group, only six percent of total gamers in the U.S. have downloaded content through home gaming consoles

            That means DLC and Wiiware/PSN/XBLA.

          • Kris

You say that like Japan doesn’t pirate anything. Also, the PS3 is ludicrously hard to pirate games for. Which is what most people seem to be asking for Tales on.

          • mach

What does any of that have to do with people being lazy for not wanting to spend 10,000 hours learning a highly complex language that has almost no use outside a single country?

It’s not unreasonable for fans to want these games localized… even if it’s never going to happen.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

I can’t wait to hear more of Jade’s sarcastic jokes on a portable handheld!

Hope they fixed the loading time issues. They’re a bit too long.

    • http://modorenai.livejournal.com/ modorenai

Agreed, the loading times were one of the most annoying things about Abyss. I do wonder how much better it’ll be if it’s on a portable though, considering the fact that they’ll be packing heck of alot of content in a 2gb cart.

  • pacanug

My one question: How will they bottle the awesomeness of Bump of Chicken into handheld size? :o3

    • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

the power of a good compression

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Lossless is the way to go

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

Quite pretty, quite interesting. I will certainly look forward to a western localization of this. And- No, stop right there, person who is about to tell me there’s-no-way-in-hell-that’ll-happen! Just… allow me to be naive and hopeful for now, instead of giving me your “oh, I am so much wiser than you because I know they won’t localize Tales games, I’ve been hurt by Bamco so many times, boohoo”. Please, get over yourself.

    • puchinri

Honestly, I hope it gets localized too. And someone pointed out that they localized the ToA anime, so maybe there is hope?

      • mach

Technically Bandai-Entertainment is localizing the anime. They’re an entirely separate division of the company and have almost nothing to do with the games side. The fact that they licensed the ToA says nothing about Bamco’s plans for the game series in the US.

        • puchinri

Ah, I see. That is unfortunate. I guess I was more or less hoping that having it localized would show how popular it is and help (as compared to the other games we don’t get that rely only on demand and don’t anime sales to back their popularity).

    • solid278

There’s no way in hell that’ll happen! Trust me, I’m so much wiser than you because I know they won’t localize Tales games. My irrefutable proof comes from how often I’ve been hurt by Bamco. Boohoo.
      …>.>
I’m hoping there’s some additional content a la Graces F : D That’ll convince me to pick this up. Er, but that may make it harder for a localization, especially if the new bits would feature voice acting ~_~

      • mach

But this game will have much lower costs because most of the translation and voice work is done already. Plus, they’ll have a shot at decent sales if this is a launch title (there won’t be much competition for the JRPG market then), and there’s always a chance Nintendo might chip in like they did with Phantasia.

If Bamco localizes any Tales games in the future, I’ll bet it’ll be this one.

        • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Congratulations on getting my hopes up. Now let’s wait and see.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Kamiwoo Kamiwoo

It’s not about wisdom, it’s about the fact that they simply do not care about localizing a vast majority of Tales games. You really cannot deny that.

There is more hope for this game, though, because it’s a port. And yet, we all said the same thing about Vesperia PS3…

    • AdamBoy64

I think Namco will have to do very little to localise this.. so in that sense, it looks likely. :)

  • Jaxel

TotA was one of the worst Tales games I’ve ever played. Why can’t they bring the GOOD Tales games to America? Like Tales of Rebirth, or Tales of Destiny 2 (the ToD2 we got in America, was actually Tales of Eternia).

    • Hraesvelgr

…Tales of the Abyss is much better than Tales of Destiny 2. In fact, most Tales games are. Definitely agree with Rebirth, though.

However… who says this is even being released outside of Japan?

      • Bruce

people like tales of destiny 2 because of the aerial combat system , i don’t see something really special with tales of the abyss , it’s kinda of boring compared to tales of rebirth and even tales of eternia

        • Ren

Destiny 2 doesn’t have aerial combat. You’re confusing it with Destiny Remake.

I like to think that Destiny 2 never happened storywise, although it was fun enough, even with its strange plot and mary sue main characters. Of course, nothing on par on Rebirth or Graces(the best in my opinion).

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Well Tales of Eternia PSP didnt make it for PSP release in the US, I had to import from Europe, odd.

Instead of port begging or even making ports they should make original titles for new systems. I mean, why would we want to play any of those olde tales games again?

    • http://www.facebook.com/jstack Jon Stachewicz

Agreed so hard. I mean, even though Vesperia was okay, I REALLY don’t trust Team Symphonia with the Tales series after seeing the myriad ways in which Team Destiny’s games are objectively better.

      • http://waxingerratic.tumblr.com/ ECM

“Objectively better”? Do you know what “objective” means, per chance?

        • http://www.facebook.com/jstack Jon Stachewicz

Yes if something is objectively better, it is a proven fact that it is better without outside influences or hindering emotions

Which is true in this case.

          • http://waxingerratic.tumblr.com/ ECM

Actually, no: objective facts are things we all agree upon, i.e. the sky is blue, black is not white, etc. Your *opinion* on the supposed objectivity of your views is, in fact, subjective, no matter how you’d like to dress it up, philosophically.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jstack Jon Stachewicz

The sky is blue, black is not white, Abyss has embarrassing load times/technical issues and an unforgivable amount of backtracking etc

          • mach

“Better”, in the way you’re using the word, is an inherently SUBJECTIVE description. Personally, I think all the Team Destiny games are crap, but just because I think something that doesn’t make it a fact.

          • Hraesvelgr

I agree with you that Team Symphonia was inferior, but saying it’s an objective fact is nonsensical. Honestly, I think a majority of “hardcore” Tales fans would at least agree that the Tales of Destiny remake is (one of) the best in the series, but I don’t think too many would say it’s a fact.

    • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

too bad because TotA is the more popular between those all (selling charts can backup that), and we dont even know if they are bringing this to america..

    • solid278

Hmm, I consider this the best of Team Symphonia’s games, by quite a long shot. They’re still nothing compared to Team Destiny’s but… I’d much rather Abyss than Symphonia or Vesperia (well, the latter would be really neat for the graphical element, not that it’d be possible by any degree on the 3DS :p).

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/TFGS777QS4JSATU7EVVQE6FZBU yengk

Oh come on guys, no need to get all butt-hurt because technological advances have pretty much killed “old school” games. While the 2D titles were decent, they was nothing spectacular about them. Hell, in another decade or so, there’ll probably be Tales fans whining about how Abyss, Symphonia and Vesperia were the “good old games” and that everything since has been a steaming pile of crap.

Abyss was a great game, and for those without PS2s and are planning to get a 3DS, its highly recommended. Although unless it significantly extends gameplay, I’ll be passing on it.

    • http://several-hours-into-the-game.blogspot.com/ Nika

While Luke’s initial attitude annoyed me to bits, I think ToA was a good game. Maybe not one of the greatest games ever made but still very enjoyable, making me look forward to the port.

  • karasuKumo

    Graphics are awesome :D

  • Draparde

tales of the abyss is probably one of my favorite tales of, i hope it makes it over here, i hope it has extras. like actually showing jades past (after reading the manga i have to ask myself why it was not in the game.)

    Nintendo Port Portable

    • Hraesvelgr

It’s Nintendo’s answer to the PSP.

  • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Awesome another game for those people with the super-power I call “speaking Japanese”.

    • http://twitter.com/retroagehippy Bill DeMont

Which is a useless super-power, in this case. I think “understanding spoken Japanese” and “reading Japanese” would be quite a bit more useful in terms of super-powers unless one feels like having a one-on-one conversation with their 3DS.

  • http://twitter.com/ViciousReiven Dusti Dever

My fav Tales on the go? excellence!

  • http://twitter.com/shiro_shishi Fresh Prince

The first thing I thought when I saw this was, why couldn’t if have been a upgraded Tales of Symphonia?! Me love some Symphonia :D

And hey! Maybe the 3DS can actually handle the world map and not be super laggy >_>

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Symphonia 2 probably underperformed so much that they are letting Symphonia rest in peace.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tommy-Lee/518924335 Tommy Lee

Is it possible that the reason Namco Bandai pulled the plug on localizing Tales games is the weakened dollar and the “stronger” yen (which still actually gaining unwanted strength)? Or is that a stupid theory? I’m really doubting myself here.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AMUJUX42P76TV26SHXD6WKZFLI TommyH

omg I hope this comes out in america

  • Saru245

Oh this is awsome! I hope that it comes over to North American since I love this game I beat it 2 times about to be 3 on the Playstation 2 and always wish for a handheld Tales game like the console games to come over here…well im praying it does come over here, and who knows maybe if it does very good we will probably see more Tales games in our hands^^
