Platinum Games Working On A "Big Multiplayer Title"

By Spencer . October 6, 2010 . 10:33am

imageVanquish, Platinum Games’ take on the third person shooter genre, will slide into stores in just a few weeks. While Vanquish does not have multiplayer mode, that feature is a core component of a future game.

"We haven’t officially announced it yet, but we have a big multiplayer title that we’re working on right now," Atsushi Inaba said during a Vanquish interview with NowGamer. "There are many different projects running internally, but please look out for the announcement."

Platinum Games dabbled with a multiplayer mode for Infinite Space, which had two player ship battles. Curious to see what the genre will be of their "big multiplayer" title.

Darn I want them to attempt some RPG for the powerful consoles.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Don’t worry. They said “there are many different projects running internally,” so there’s hope yet! Also, unlike many other Japanese developers, they seem to pace themselves pretty well when it comes to finishing and releasing their games. So if you don’t like one, they’ll have another one for ya soon, I’m sure.

Good because after Bayonetta Im ready for another great game. Vanquish is just way too hardcore for me. A multiplayer game similar will be too hardcore (I imagine it will be a shooter), unless they innovate..

  • KISVIDIANDIVLI

I don’t like multiplayer. Why are developers putting multiplayer (and online) in every single videogame that they develop?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aarachnid-Malik-Davolcanese/1548060424 Aarachnid Malik Davolcanese

Because they don’t contour to the tastes of one person on the internet

So then they can keep people from trading in the game, thus if trade backs are decreased, then people will be forced to buy the game new…Or rather maybe so then they can add in DLC to the game and make more money from people who will buy map packs and additional ingame trinkets. Or maybe to enhance the value of the game to account for a story that will be 8 hours or less.

Or you know, a lot of people actually enjoy multiplayer games?

      • Hraesvelgr

The problem with this argument is that people usually play online in a game for about a week, trade in the game/never touch the game again and just move back to whatever online game is most popular.

It’s a poor and lazy excuse.

This times a thousand.I trust Platinum games; If they can make a good shooter then they can do anything.

Err this is Platinum’s first multiplayer game so stop complaining. They didn’t force multiplayer into Vanquish and I respect them for that. I’m not a fan of a lot of the multiplayer out there either but that’s because the majority of it is forced. They’ve put out a good amount of single player games in a variety of genres if they wanna try multiplayer I’m all for it.

    • malek86

      Because people want it?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aarachnid-Malik-Davolcanese/1548060424 Aarachnid Malik Davolcanese

Generally speaking, when someone makes a game starting out with the multiplayer component, the single-player is usually bad because they just try to make up different scenarios (read: excuses) to use the multiplayer stuff against the computer.

I’m not really a fan of Clover/Platinum but I respect them for always trying new stuff and dabbling in different genres. They always have my interest and while they’ve never met my expectation (aside from Bayonetta) I’m still looking forward to this reveal.

  • capristrider

YES! I love to see Platinum Games’ take on multiplayer game, best news I’ve heard all day! Also I hope one of the project running internally is a future Bayonetta sequel :)

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

As long as I get a great single player experience in this game or another upcoming one, I’m sold. They’re not only leaps and bounds ahead of most other Japanese devs in terms of having a handle on ANY hardware they choose, they’re also endlessly creative and versatile. What a team.

You know what they could do? After Vanquish releases and does well….they could sell a MP DLC for it

    • Hraesvelgr

      Oh god.

Really wanted to buy Vanquish on release date but had to use the money on UNS2 nd Dj Hero 2…guess i’ll get it on its eventual price drop.

I`ll buy whatever Platinum games releases.

    O_O

Multi player (Co-Op) in my Vanquish or Bayonetta…?!
