The Mirage Arena has a new, humongous boss to battle in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix. Players can team up to fight Monstro, the giant whale from Pinocchio. What makes this fight interesting is it takes place outside and inside Monstro. Every three minutes Monstro swallows the party whole. The whale’s digestive system has HP sapping stomach acid and Unversed to fight.

Another Mirage Arena feature is an ability called "Illusion L." This transforms your character into an Unversed, specifically a launching plant. Players inherit the attacks and parameters of the Unversed after metamorphosis.

Other features announced in Famitsu are a command board for Peter Pan and additional songs for the Rhythmic Ice Cream mini-game.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix comes out in Japan in January 2011.

And there I was thinking Nomura would actually give us Pinocchio’s whole world, and what we get is some kind of over the top battle. Why did I even put my hopes up this high.

  • MisterNiwa

Ho ho ho ho. A whale of a fight.

  • My inferior versions still remains little played. I wish they included a very easy mode. Did I mention the game is quite difficult?!

    • Beginner mode is too hard for you?

      • Yeah, Ive been stuck in the forest with Snow White, the trees keep killing both me and her :( I play as Ven and have had to restart the area numerous times.

        • Whoops, nevermind.

        • Oh. That mission was an annoying one to get through. Best advice I can give is stay close to her, keep an eye out for on screen prompts to turn the trees to normal, level up in the mine if you’re taking too much damage and play Command Board if you’re lacking commands.

  • It is because this act I hate Square.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

    Oh no… No, you didn’t. Whale of a fight? Aha.ha. =P

Anyway, the Unversed thing seems interesting, but not necessarily substantial, so I really don’t mind about all this content (except maybe for the Armored Master fight). I’m playing BbS for the second time in proud mode, and the game is just PURE fun, it’s incredible.

  • Did everyone else use the command board a lot? I used it once, thought it was dumb, and never went back

    • You actually need to play it to get 100%, so there are people who probably have for that reason, like me. There are exclusive Shotlocks and rare commands, like Aqua’s Wishing Edge, on the bonus panels for each board. Since you could also steal panels from the other players, it’s also an easy way to acquire commands earlier than usual in the beginning of the game and to get some command melding ingredients without spending the munny needed later on. The CP reward multiplier increases with every board as well, so the new commands and the commands you used as panels in the game could be mastered instantly if they were a low enough rank for the board. There’s also the Pete D-Link that you can only get by playing Command Board.

  • Now Japan will know the cheap ways of Pan.

… That didn’t come out right.

    • You can’t catch me!

  • Danm you square always making the Jap get everything!
