Shienryu And Tall Unlimited Space Out On PlayStation Network

imageIf you didn’t figure it out from our puzzlenouncement, MonkeyPaw’s next two digital imports are Arcade Hits: Shienryu and Tall Unlimited.

Shienryu is an early shooter from Warashi, the same company that later developed Triggerheart Exelica. There aren’t any anchors or ship spinning in this vertical shooter, though. Shienryu sticks to the basics with lasers, missiles, and bombs.

Tall Unlimited, I believe, was actually released in North America earlier. Agetec picked up tower building game and published it under the name Tall Infinity. Both games will be available on PlayStation Network later today.

Looks like a fun shmup, but they say the PS1 ver. lacks the tate mode that the Saturn ver. has? Not that I’d be using it anyway.. And I like the interpretation of the commenter who guessed it was Icarus from Dragonball lol.

    • Code

rar, I like tate mode because it lets me play shmups well laying down, lol >w<'

      • Aoshi00

I tried that once, and Ikaruga in tate mode on a 46″ was huge, but it was really tough hand eye coordination almost making me cock eyed :)

        • Code

Yeahh I can’t say it is any better when I’ve tried, it makes me sleepy and uncoordinated, lol. Then usually I’ll die to something dumb, and sit back up and revert it, lol.

  • They do not do any marketing for these titles? How do people like me, who missed the games in their original day get excited or even intrigued over these. I wish they provided some gameplay videos.

    • Because they’re PSN releases that sell for $5.99 and not retail games.

    • MonkeyPaw has a site that has quite a bit of info. for each game released. It’s not what you’re looking but it’s there if you want to keep tabs on them at least:
They have a forum now, too, that just put up.

This is odd, since it seems both games were actually released in North America before. Agetec did Tall Unlimited as Tall Infinity, and Shienryu was released by Natsume as Gekioh: Shooting King.

Shienryu/Gekioh is an excellent 2D shooter, though. Could never beat the final boss, too; utterly insane battle at the end.

  • Code

    rar definitely, definitely importing Shienryu, rarrr co-op play >ww<;

Tall Unlimited looks somewhat interesting too, I like that it has that quirky quality that a lot of early PS1 puzzle games had, when they started to explore doing puzzle games in 3D space.

  • Why, exactly, are they releasing imports of games that ACTUALLY GOT LOCALIZED?

  • Chow

Huh. I saw those announced on North American Playstation Blog a few days ago. If I’d just made the connection to the puzzlenouncement, I could’ve posted those titles there and seemed super awesomely cool for guessing it. D’ah well. :)

  • Triggerheart Exelica.
Ah, I just played this a few days ago. It was pretty fun. This weekend I’m going to stack some credit into my PSP and get to work.
