Golden Boy Artist Making God Of War Mini-Manga

By Spencer . October 20, 2010 . 12:13pm

God of War: Ghost of Sparta takes place between God of War and God of War II, two games released by Capcom instead of Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan. Golden Boy manga artist Tatsuya Egawa was given the task of getting new players up to speed on the story.

And he gave Kratos a manga makeover.

Reserve God of War: Ghost of Sparta in Japan and you’ll get a mini-manga that outlines Kratos’ backstory. Seems like this bonus (and smiling Kratos?) is only for the Japan right now. Pre-order the game PSP game in North America and you’ll get a digital content pack including a skin, themes, soundtrack, and behind the scenes mini-documentary.

    • …Yeah, I gotta agree. Ew.Edit: I just noticed the size of Kratos’s head (and neck). Hooooly crow. He’s like…there’s probably a much better example out there, but all I can think of are the aliens from Mars Attacks….Oh my lord. That head just takes it from ugly/amateurish to sheer LULZ territory. I can not stop laughing.

Auugggh, why did you have to point that out. My poor eyes… @[email protected]
Now look at his family’s faces.

Wife: Must… not… look… not at his grossly disproportional noggin.
Child: It’s ok mom, just look at Dad’s beard. It soothes your soul.

      • the wifes face looks kinda weird also

wow, i remember watching Golden Boy when they were showing it on MTV in germany

Who would’ve thought? That’s the last mangaka I would have expected to do this. I think Hiroaki Samura (Blade of the Immortal), or Kentaro Miura (Berserk) would be a much better fit for this.

Looks like Tatsuya Egawa’s art style hasn’t changed much since Golden Boy.

But what the heck is wrong with Kratos’s head on the top left in that picture?!?! Is that picture from an unfinished cell?

I think Egawa Tatsuya’s art changed a lot since he went seinen. I used to really like his art when he drew Magical Taruruto-kun (the anime was awesome, it was like Doraemon but w/ more sexual jokes). I haven’t read his manga in years, but I recently flipped thru some of his manga in BookOff like Genji, Russo-Japanese War Story, or Tokyo University Story, his art was even weirder than before.. it’s definitely an acquired taste. But I highly recommend Magical Tarurto-kun, the anime was hilarious :)

    Wow,the artstyle looks so….weird…

  • No, just no.

  • What is this I don’t even.

  • Too bad there weren’t any real toilets in ancient Greece for him to lick.
