Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Trademark Dramatically Appears

By Spencer . October 29, 2010 . 1:36am

imageDoes Square Enix have another Dissidia game with an befuddling name in the works? That could explain why the Final Fantasy publisher trademarked Duodecim Prologus in Europe.

One possibility is Duodecim Prologus could be an English name for the upcoming PSP game Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy. However, Square Enix already announced the game for the West with the Japanese title as the official English title.

The registration date is also something to note. Square Enix already filed a trademark for [duodecim] with the brackets in Europe and North America. The Duodecim Prologus trademark comes more than a month later.

"Prologus" is Latin for prologue. Since Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy fills us in on the story before Dissidia: Final Fantasy could Duodecim Prologus be a prologue to 012?

    in other word.. milking?

    • Testsubject909

      probably DLC.

  • BelmontHeir

This should be a PSN-exclusive visual novel. That’d be fun. In reality, it’s probably a cellphone game for the Japanese market.

    • epy

Sadly, you’re most likely right, that or an app for an iThing.

    • Joanna

Whatever it is, if they use the trademark, it will have an English release since this is from the European trademark database. ;)

  • It’s the Final Fantasy game everyone’s been waiting for: an ALL CID PUZZLE FIGHTER!

    • MemeticRichard

      Dr. Cid wins. :<

      • Hell, I hate Final Fantasy XII and even I think Dr. Cid was awesome.

  • Hopefully it is a PS3 version.

  • MemeticRichard

So, it’s the prequel to the prequel which is actually a sequel to the real prequel?

    Makes sense.

  • karasuKumo

Pfft, not to bothered about this. Just better not get in the way of the development of Agito and Versus.

I doubt it’s something big, it would be too daring of them to plan something big without seeing how Duodecim sells first. Then again it is SE, the cockiest developer/publisher on the planet.

My bet is on another “mix” of Duodecim with pointless new content that could have been included with Duodecim. But SE believes releasing it as another mix and increase the price will somehow make it sell well even though we all know it’ll be pirated the hell out of. I’m looking into this too much LOL

  • What If it’s a movie? Maybe with Ingame graphics (Or Rendered like the Battle Scenes at the end of their Odyssey’ in the first game) that just gives a little back story. I dunno, I just want Duodecim (>”)>

  • It’s probably a cell phone game. Move along.

  • It could be a demo, downloadable from PSN, which may be free (hopefully) or sold (like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue).

    • I think demo/DLC is the most likely option too.

    • Joanna

My thoughts exactly. Demo/DLC makes the most sense considering this is in the European trademark database and not the Japanese one (where most new game’s names show up).

  • doomspeller10

I don’t mind it, provided they include more characters and don’t screw up the battle system.

  • Don’t know why, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a 3DS game.

  • glemtvapen

I having the feeling this “Prologus” would be the extended version of duodecim. Like how the US had a couple more stuff compared to the original Japanese release.
Considering S-E’s track record and how our EU buddies are getting more exclusive stuff, this is a likely scenario.

  • Mobile games aren’t popular in the EU region, so it more than likely won’t be that. I like the ideas of it being a graphic novel or a demo, or even DLC. Maybe the title of the Collector’s Edition?
