Hopefully it will be a final build of the 3DS with games in their final stages. Do people who run this site reside in JPN? Will they go and tell us the goods?

  • Apollokids

Gimmick. Show me the worth of your games and I will tell you the worth of your hardware.

They’ve got pretty much all the top-tier developers already working on games for the 3DS. And considering that mst, if not all of the games released for the 3ds (as well as the remakes/rereleases of GB/GBC/GBA Games) will ALSO support 3D (Fire Emblem in 3d, F^ck Yeah, Seaking!), I think It’s about time to stop labeling it as a gimmick and give it Feature status. an Optional Feature at that.

      • Apollokids

Can you please give me some persepective on this because i am not a Nintendo buff. How do you feel about the WII and its games now compared to how you felt about the WII and its games when it was first released. First party games on WII are good (mario, metroid, zelda) but third-party games are- well…. third rate. Still, your clear input would help settle my concern.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Honestly, I was never really into the Wii. The only Game I’ve ever bought for it was SSBB( The only reason I bought it) and the only other game I will buy for it is Last Story. I’m Honestly not a Nintendo Buff; I don’t prefer any system over any other and I’ve played my PSP/PS2 more than the DS/Wii/Gamecube combined, though My GBA is prolly my most played System.

However, several of the companies that are already announced for the system (Capcom, Square Enix, Level-5, etc) all have excellent Track Records and have already confirmed support for the system, whereas when the Wii launched, it had hardly any support from third-party systems (and most of the ones it did have were Shovelware).

So the reason I’m so confident about this one is because of the support it has fom others. It’s this reason alone that I’m afraid the PSP2 will probably flop, because unlike the DS, psp Piracy is insanely bad and most develepoers, at least Stateside, don’t care about it anymore.

          • Apollokids

I think the PSP has done well because of its graphics capabilities. Sure the 3ds has good graphics now. But side by side competing against the PSP2 it will undoubtedly be sub-par in THAT respect. And so one offers 3d capabilities while the other offers superior in game graphics. You can play ps1 games on the psp. You will be able to play ps2 games on the PSP2. without a doubt. You can also play gba games on PSP. There is an emulator. And i have to admit, the Gameboy Advance is really great system. The only nintendo system i like. I love Megaman Zero.

I’m referring to the official sytems of the PSP. The PSP isn’t supposed to to be able to play GBA games (And it can’t even play all of them) And yes, while it is true that PSP games have better graphics, DS games as a whole have much better Gameplay and longevity, which is why DS games sell so much more than PSP games.

I never understood why people praised and grew in excitement about the list of developers bringing games to the 3DS. Is it not the same developers that brought games to the Wii and the DS?

Maybe the statement should be that some franchises are being realized for the 3DS…but then the biggest of those shown in image form was (looking beyond Nintendo), some of the Square Enix titles, the Metal Gear Solid one, and then a Resident Evil…but RE was on Wii and DS already, and so have Square Enix titles. That Street Fighter had some excitement from people, but people are always a bit on the iffy side about handheld fighting games.

I think its honestly too early to side on the pro or con of gimmick or feature as, we can clearly only go on the basis of remakes (OoT) and glorified FMVs, which as we know anyone can make an FMV look good on any system.

And if people dont buy these games upon release or they find the 3D to just be a gimmick and they dislike the online system for the games, then the developer support of their top franchises will dwindle fast.

The list of games coming is nice…but why havent we seen images of some of them? Are they all in some theoretical phase of development?

Will 3D even add to the gameplay or just serve to drain battery life faster or be a feature people just ignore?

“I never understood wy people praised and grew in excitement about the list of developers bringing games to the 3DS. Is it not the same developers that brought games to the Wii and the DS?”

It’s because it’s the same develepoers that we get excited. As you’ve admitted, you’ve never played anygame made before at least 2004. I grew up with most of these DEVs. And one major difference between the WIIDS and the #DS is that they didn’t support the system from the outset; This system has games being made for it before it was even announced!

“I think its honestly too early to side on the pro or con of gimmick or feature as, we can clearly only go on the basis of remakes (OoT) and glorified FMVs, which as we know anyone can make an FMV look good on any system.

Kid Icarus was Gameplay Footage. Even without the 3d, that game looked amazing.

“And if people dont buy these games upon release or they find the 3D to just be a gimmick and they dislike the online system for the games, then the developer support of their top franchises will dwindle fast.

The 3d is an OPTIONAL feature, as I’ve said before. The way I’m seeing it, it’s made to enhance the game, not make the game. Not to mention, 3D isn’t the only feature the 3DS has; It also has a Gyroscope sensor insice, which alone adds many possible gameplay mechanics, as well as enhanced Online capabilities (able to pick up actual WIFI signals instead of having to connect to a port).

“The list of games coming is nice…but why havent we seen images of some of them? Are they all in some theoretical phase of development?

We’ve seen images of SFIV, Tales of he Abyss, OOT, Snake Eater, and the 2 resident Evil Games, as well as some KH screenshots, though those may not be final. for the most part, those are just ports, meaning that most of the Data is already there. The reason we haven’t seen any images is because they prolly aren’t done making the games yet.Contrary to what you may believe, it prolly isn’t a smart idea to show images and hype a game that isn’t close to being done, especially for a system that isn’t out yet.

Actually GBA has not yet been confirmed for Virtual Handheld. So for the time being, we only have GB/C games, which, imo, is still pretty good because there are lots of great GB/C games. :)

I wonder how Nintendo is going to deal with the problem of not being able to show 3D in advertising. It’s kinda like 3DTVs, sometimes you’ll see an ad or something, but it doesn’t really say much about the real product, it just shows a bunch of things supposedly out of the screen (and the way it’s done, it looks very silly).

Oh well, maybe a bunch of demo stations will actually help impulse buying.

    • puchinri

I was thinking of that the other day. Although do they usually do commercials for a system (I only remember few Wii commercials and that was it)? For games, the 3D isn’t necessary on TV at least.
But if it’s billboards, you can do 3D on those, can’t you? They’ll probably find some way around it.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Nintendo has a policy of “playing is believing”. With the Wii, they would put the Wiimote into people’s hands and make them play games on the Wii for themselves. From there, word-of-mouth would do all the work for them. This isn’t something new, since Nintendo did the exact same thing back when they were introducing the NES to the North American market.

The purpose of this event is exactly that, to put the 3DS into the public’s hands and make them try it out for themselves. Even if Nintendo can’t effectively convey the 3D effect through traditional media, it doesn’t matter. Once the public has had a chance to try it out, the buzz of excitement will ensure to make even the biggest of skeptics curious and make them see it for themselves just to figure out what’s the big hubbub.

Considering the almost ecstatic response the 3DS has been receiving since E3, I would say that it’s already working.

    • Joanna

I think this will only be a problem for games where 3D is the main selling point. For everything else, regular commercials should be fine (i.e. – if your main selling point is the game’s story, you make a trailer showcasing that).

  • puchinri

If I had money, I would go.

I’m hoping we’ll see titles that we haven’t got any news on in a while. And of course, I hope the titles that people are especially excited about will be shown (Kid Icarus, please).

  • Joanna

If DSi XL advertising is any indication, I’m sure there will be in-store demos here, so I shall be looking forward to try one out eventually. :)
