Capcom has Okamiden, a Nintendo DS sequel to Okami, slated for release on March 15. Reserve it early and you can get a paintbrush stylus, the same pre-order bonus Capcom offered in Japan. In North America, the stylus will be a little more uncommon since it’s only available at Gamestop and only for the first 20,000 copies of Okamiden sold at the retailer.
Okamiden has come a long way from its origins as an internally developed fan project. "It was pretty basic," said Motohide Eshiro, Producer, when discussing the prototype in a Siliconera interview.
"Chibiterasu was in an open world environment, but there was nothing really in there. He could run around, but that was pretty much it. Then they showed me how he would use the Celestial Brush for drawing. You could draw things, but they didn’t have any effects that the Celestial Brush had. It was just drawing for the sake of drawing."
Okamiden, the completed game, has levels, characters (some being offspring of Okami alumni), brush effects, pathfinding puzzles, and a celestial disc that Chibiterasu can throw.
