Idea Factory Is Rolling In Money, Thanks To Neptunia And Record Of Agarest War

By Spencer . November 3, 2010 . 10:26am

nepu_1280_960Moe-RPG publisher Idea Factory announced record profits for the fiscal period ending in September 2010.

In 2008, Idea Factory posted 300 million yen in earnings and sales of 1.9 billion yen. The Tokyo-based publisher did a little bit better in 2009 with 310 million yen in earnings and 2.22 billion yen in sales.

This year, Idea Factory posted 710 million in earnings ($8.8 million) and 2.85 billion yen of sales ($35 million). That’s over double the amount of money Idea Factory brought in last year. Idea Factory is thanking fans with four wallpapers.

During this period Idea Factory released games like Hakuouki: Junsouroku, Agarest Senki Zero: Dawn of War, and Hyperdimension Neptunia.

  • More Agarest please! This is awesome news, in such a tumultuous world economy it is nice to see that there are some companies that are thriving and well.

    • Didn’t Agarest Senki Zero just get announced for EU/NA? That’s definitely a sign that they weren’t scared away from releasing other games in the franchise.

      • DanteJones

Indeed, and hopefully if the money wagon keeps on rollin’ we’ll see more releases like Agarest War 2. ;D

    Wallpapers link is borked…

    • malek86

Definitely. I click on it, expecting cute wallpapers, and I get a shot of Master Chief’s helmet. Not nearly as moe as I thought.

      • How DARE you say Master Chief isn’t moe! :)

        • M’iau M’iaut

Personally, I leave that description for Gordon Freeman.

          • malek86

Actually, my idea of moe character is Kurt Hectic.

Don’t know how many remember this one though.

    • M’iau M’iaut

If you click on the pic of the neptune girls, you can grab it as a 1200×800 wallpaper.

Little Miss 360s chest only seems to be growing larger……..Blanc is even more huggable.

      • Nothing like ps3’s neptune’s theme, it pwnz

  • malek86

Good for them. I thought Neptune had only sold ok, but it looks like it was a good success actually. Maybe because they didn’t spend much money on it (since most dungeons seem to be recycled from TU). Did they also release more games compared to last year?

  • This makes me very happy. I hope Idea Factory continues to grow and NISA can keep working with them in the future!!

  • Finalstar2007

Hey great news, hope they keep doing better and hope NISA keeps bringing their games over

  • Pichi

I wish this type of news were frequent. Very happy for them! I hope other niche companies are experiencing growth as well.

  • ChaosPaladinFayt

awesome news, i is expecting even bettar games in da future la… =D

  • HarryHodd

Good news! I plan to pick up Neptunia for sure and probably Agarest.

  • lordgeo

Well, this news is certainly going to bring about utter hatred from a number of JRPG fans, especially the likes of those over at RPGamer and RPGFan, which are mostly filled with IF haters.

I, personally, am very happy to see the company see such big earnings compared to previous years. I’d celebrate by buying Aksys’ release of Blazing Souls Accelate for PSP… But I already did that on Halloween.

    • Considering the amount of Western RPG’s on the top 10 lists over at RPGamer, I don’t think they could be considered JRPG fans.

      • M’iau M’iaut

RPGamer’s a site that has seen more than one incarnation, or at least focus depending on the folks involved. In RPGfan’s defense, they have given VNs and simulation rpgs fair coverage, even reviewing indie games done with renpy and the like.

I will concur, however, that both sites forums lean to the fanboi side of things.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

In a time when news of companies are downsizing, restructuring, and losing annual profit are frequent, this is a nice refreshing change. :)

  • cmurph666

    You’re Welcome~!

  • I hope this means an English version of Wand of Fortune Portable or SYK!

  • JustaGenericUser

I thought they said Neptune sold like sh–?

  • Awesome news even if I’ve never played one of their games before I am really looking forward to Neptunia. I just have a question about Agarest War, firstly when I saw the game for the first time I really loved the art style (and as I said before on other comments I would play anything just for having a good art style) but normally I hate SRPGs because they feel kinda repetitive to me.

Having to start almost a 30 min session from scratch because I failed is VERY frustrating to me and that’s why I never bothered on finishing Valkyria Chronicles. Now I would really love to give Agarest a chance, would you recommend this game to me or should I stay away from it?

  • cj_iwakura

The XS Games of the JRPG industry.

  • Hope this means they’ll have a bit more money to pump into their games, what I’ve seen and played of their games makes me feel that a slight bump in production values would dramatically improve their games.
