Nightmare, Drama, And Stray Sheep Are Catherine’s Three Gameplay Systems

By Spencer . November 9, 2010 . 1:26am

imageAtlus updated the Catherine site with an option to check out the game’s gameplay systems. There are three options: Nightmare, Drama, and Stray Sheep. Only Drama is selectable, which centers around Katherine (Vincent’s girlfriend) and Catherine (Vincent’s lover). Atlus uses an analogy to compare Vincent’s heart to a pendulum. Which girl will it swing towards?

The drama is told with a blend of event scenes that use 3D models and animated cutscenes created by Studio 4C. Take a look at a sample below.

Nightmare and Stray Sheep are "coming soon." The Nightmare probably refers to the "action part" which has Vincent climbing away from grotesque monsters. Stray Sheep refers to the bar Vincent hangs out at, but what kind of gameplay will players do there? Chat over pizzas?

I hope, Atlus include Japanese voice function on U.S release. This game has terrific voice actors, it will be so nice to play with Japanese voice.

    • MisterFoxInc

I don’t see it likely, but I’d appreciate that being kept, too. It DOES sound enjoyable.

Here are some things to consider:
This game doesn’t seem like it will be very long so there might be lots of room for voice (dual language), but there does seem to be tons of dialogue so it might not fit (no dual language). If might fit on Blu-Ray (DL), but they’d probably want to make it equal on both consoles (no DL). But since the game seems linear, it could work as 2 discs for the 360 and 1 for the PS3 like w/ Lords of Shadow (DL).

    • Aoshi00

There has never been a dual track Persona game, so I highly doubt it. For me the seiyuu is one of the selling points of this game too.

  • Those blue eyes are so mesmerizing, Toby, that blue just really sticks out, nice…Anyway, this game is shrouded in so much intrigue, I cant wait to see how all of it fits together and just what the overall story is.

    • They need to keep the jap voices. Anything else will suck. I’ll buy the JP PS3 version hopefully with the soundtrack, and then the US 360 or PS3 version anyway, but I kinda need jap voices with english subs or I’m done for. I can’t read a word japanese.

Atlus have done a bad job of dubbing their games?

  • MisterFoxInc

Oh lordy me, the pizza is shaped like a bra. I can’t wait for this game. <3

  • Interesting that the video starts out saying “Day 1.” So the game will play out in a series of days format. Wonder what the time period will be. One week? One month? One Year?

  • Soma

Though it may end up spoiling stuff, I keep reading these ’cause I just can’t wait for this game! Atlus better make an announcement about a North American release soon. ;)

Also, in regards to the Stray Sheep aspect of the game, maybe it will work similar to the social links in P3 and P4? Answer questions to improve your relations with your bros, and maybe the conversations will lead to a solution to Vincent’s sleep and love problems? :D

  • I’m amazed with the cut scene
If I see this on Persona 5

    Then I will really CAME!

FYI I will play catherene in respect of P3

    • MisterNiwa

‘Then I will really came’Then I will – FutureCame – PastTime Paradox – Mind? Blown.

      • puchinri

Maybe that’s just how serious of a thing it would be if they saw it on P5. Time Paradox occurs and all. Atlus has a lot of power in their hands.

      • ahh CUM!!!

      • RupanIII

lol this reminds me of this Japanese kid I used to know years back. He loved to use English swear/dirty words, but his English wasn’t so hot so instead of saying ‘I CAME/I’M CUMING!’ he’d say ‘I’M ARRIVING!’

        • MisterNiwa

          LOL. He arrived.

  • I am hoping the gameplay will be free roaming.

  • Klaus00

the smoker sounds alot like Yamato (Shippuden Naruto)

    • They have different voice actors though.

    • Aoshi00

That’s Koyasu Takehito, nobody else really sounds like him. Yamato (Koyama Rikiya) was Basch in FF12.

  • Is anyone else turned off by the fact that the “action” part of this game consists of puzzle platforming? Climbing up a structure to get away from a monster doesn’t exactly sound… exciting. :/

    • Not even the slightest. If the action part consisted of jumping in a circle 20 times and nothing else, I’d still be just as excited. I’m not coming to this game for ‘action.’

      • Joanna

Could not have said it better myself. I guess part of the reason I don’t care is because I am a VN fan, so no gameplay doesn’t really bother me so long as the story is good.

    • Hraesvelgr

  • ok, the dark haired dud vincent’s friend… i know that voice somewhere

  • neocatzon

just a name of Studio 4°C is instant win for me

  • Testsubject909

    Why did I hear Gintama?

    • Aoshi00

Sugita Tomokazu is not in here, that’s the legendary Koyasu Takehito (Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi for those who still remember), way before his times :). I guess he does have the same type of deep voice..
