Makai Wars… Lives?

By Spencer . November 10, 2010 . 2:31pm

imageA long time ago (in a galaxy not so far away), Nippon Ichi announced Makai Wars for PSP. Development moved to PlayStation 3… in 2005 and we haven’t heard about it since. Well, that’s if you don’t count Axel talking about Makai Wars in Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days.

Did Nippon Ichi cancel the game? Maybe not. The publisher filed a trademark for Makai Wars in Japan not too long ago. This was after Nippon Ichi registered a trademark for Criminal Girls, which is actually coming out for PSP.

If Nippon Ichi canned Makai Wars they probably wouldn’t have filed a trademark for the game. Perhaps, we’ll hear more about the PlayStation 3 version soon.

rarrr >w< hooray finally~!! Do want!! My Makai Kingdom senses are tingling!

  • Maybe they’ll have Makai Wars, then troll us by not making Asagi the main character LOL

    • nyoron

I feel like Asagi has to be the main character of Makai Wars no matter what. So what they should do is just skip straight to Makai Wars 2.

      • Code

rar, I like this argument, lol, it’s just the kind of move NIS would do too >w<'

  • joesz

too bad, asagi went off as a cameo-_-

  • SolidusSnake

Bah, I’ll believe it when it’s spinning in my PS3 and not a moment earlier.

    • Code

but butt! Maybe it’s spinning in it right now! Have you checked xox!!?

    • MisterNiwa

But if you don’t believe it won’t happen Solidus! This is your world, so make*believe!

I just invented the new slogan for Sony. -This is your world, so make*believe!-

    • Testsubject909

You mean, you’ll believe it when it’ll be spinning in someone’s PS3 in Japan while you’re stuck here refreshing the news everyday just for the faint hope of knowing when it’ll be ported over to the western world.

    • I believe that Black Matrix, Tales of *****, and Kingdom Hearts Final Mix will… *sigh* (._.”)

  • I will support NISA will every PS3 release they make, as long as they stay exclusive to those of us who have been loyal to them.

    That said…

Part of Asagi’s charm is that she keep missing out on getting her game. If she ever actually gets it, it’ll kill what makes her character appealing. If this is going to be made, please find some way to screw Asagi out of starring in it.

    • LastFootnote

I disagree. Even if starring in her own game kills what currently makes her character appealing, I’m looking forward to seeing what Asagi is actually like (since her personality is different in each cameo). Perhaps we’ll find new things to like about her; things that aren’t necessarily running gags.

    • I disagree. It’s silly to just make the same joke everytime, it’s not funny anymore. I like Agai because of her arrogant personality and funny comments sometimes, she want’s attention and being a non-main character was an excuse.

I would be cool if she is the main character this time but nobody cares about her like Axel then she appears in others games like cameo trying to promote her own game.

      • Come on, you don’t think it’d be funny if the game comes out and, lo and behold, Asagi STILL only gets a cameo? Or even better yet, ends up as the antagonist because this is supposed to be her game?

        • As the antagonist sound like a preety good idea actually. But I getting tired of cameos with the same joke everytime.

          • Main character shows up, the game does the typical RPG characters meeting each other stuff. No Asagi to be seen. About an hour in, after some event the main character and party have done, Asagi runs into the screen, ready to be the main character, only to be told that she was late to cast reading or something, so they replaced her. She starts yelling that she was lost in traffic or something, as the other characters walk off the screen, leaving her alone.

Put in a couple more events like that, especially ones where the main characters defeat a boss, only to have her run in, ready to beat it and then freaking out after realizing how late she was. Then, about halfway through, show the character who is supposed to be the last boss saying something stereotypically evil when Asagi pushes them off a cliff or something and says, “This is my game! I’ve earned it! After all the cameos I’ve done, I deserve to be the main character! If they won’t give me my slot, I’ll just have to take it!”

            Comedy ensues.

    • Code

I will support NIS, because I’m loyal to NIS not consoles >w<; Although I don't know if I'd like to see Asagi star as the main character, if she was part of the supporting cast though I'd be fine with that!

    • raymk

Naw it wouldn’t kill it. I’ve been waiting on her to be the main character. they can find somebody else to replace her not getting into the game. besides you can only let a gag run so far before its not funny anymore.

  • Apollokids

I mostly wonder what kind of game this will be. Not a rogue-like, not a tactical srpg, not a sidescroller. Maybe a grindfest action-adventure?

  • A-SA-GI! A-SA-GI! A-SA-GI!

  • Schwer_Muta

The Asagi joke had completely run its course after Soul Nomad. It’s not funny anymore and it never will be.

Her finally getting her own game, it being awesome, and then her kicking the ass of everybody who screwed her over the years in the postgame would be about a million times more satisfying.

  • DarkWaterClone

I know it might be crazy but I think Makai Wars is not going to be a PS3 game. I could see it being for the PSP2. I could see Nippon Ichi making it for the PSP2. So then you can play it at home or on the go. Because with NIS making great games for the PSP & PS3 I would not be shocked to see them having one of the dev kits for the PSP2.

That all being said I have been wanting Makai Wars for some time now. So to hear that it still could come out is great news.

  • I hope this is for PSP

    • LastFootnote

I hope not, but only because NISA has a smaller chance of publishing it if it’s on the PSP. In a perfect world where the PSP wasn’t so easy to hack and was much more popular in the west, I’d definitely like to have it on the PSP.
