Shiren Vs. Shiren, Round 1, Fight!!

Yes, you can set up a Shiren vs. Shiren fight to the death in Shiren the Wanderer 5: Fortune Tower and the Dice of Fate. Like The Last Story, Chunsoft created a multiplayer mode.

Two players can link up and explore dungeons together or duke it out. Its up to you and your friend or enemy to pick a style of play. This video shows both of them, but we hope there’s more to the versus mode than two Shirens standing in front of each other whacking each other with a sword.

  • Someone has to localize one of the recent Shiren DS games.

  • I personally have no problem with two Shirens standing in front of each other while whacking each other with swords.

    Might just be me.

It’s a shame that Chunsoft can’t devote it’s efforts to making something other than a mindless dungeon crawler…I’ve never been a fan of these types of games because of how unfair and random they are (random as in half the time you can’t find any items that you need) and how they all start involving food meters which just make what would otherwise be fun into a frantic anxiety festival.

With that said, the graphics and music and attention to detail in the previous DS game, and no doubt this one as well, is just fantastic. This is why I’d like to see a traditional Action RPG for this game series. It might sell decently too given that the random dungeon element is no doubt exactly what’s keeping many RPG fans away.

    • While I can understand you not enjoying them, I can’t see why you’d call the Shiren games mindless. All of the entries I’ve played demand a particular mix of strategy, patience, resource management, experimentation—and yes, a little luck in order to progress. PC roguelikes (on average) are even less lenient on the mentally-unprepared.
