Get Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy XIII For $17 On Black Friday

By Spencer . November 11, 2010 . 9:47am

Target’s Black Friday ad leaked onto the Internet with two deals for RPG fans inside. The retailer plans on selling Final Fantasy XIII (both versions) and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies for just $17 a piece.

Alternatively, parents can pick up iCarly 2 or Wipeout for the same price. Hmm… I wonder how many kids are going to wake up with Lightning under the tree.

Thanks for the heads up Colin!

wow. i wonder what other crazy deals await us this season.

two quick things: 1) i’m finally playing FFXIII. 40hrs in, on Pulse. Actually enjoying it. 2) i want to buy DQIX (especially at this price), but will i feel like i’m getting the full experience if i don’t play online? i know there is a big online emphasis, but generally don’t like DS online.

      1) Glad to see someone else enjoying FF13.

      2) You can get a full 100+ hour experience out of DQIX by doing single-player only. The online function is really only an in-game shop you connect to that has new items daily and new quests weekly.

As for local connectivity with other players, while it is much easier getting better post-game dungeon maps through trades with other people, doing so also kills some of the fun and adventure of working your way up to the dungeons yourself. Tagging other players also expands your inn (home base) in one of the towns, but it is mostly just a cosmetic change rather than being super useful (like in Animal Crossing).

TL;DR version: Online only enhances an already jam-packed single-player RPG experience. Go pick it up.

Hiro, jon, flail: thanks for the info. you made my decision easier and i’m looking forward to it!

That’s not entirely true; the upgrades to Erinn’s Inn open up areas of the Inn. So you are missing out if you don’t tag. :(

So far I have only gotten one upgrade and it gave me access to more alchemy recipes.

    • Most of the online content isn’t multiplayer; rather, it comes in the form of downloadable quests and treasure maps. It’s a better game if you have access to people with whom to play co-op, but either way it’s still one of the best DQ games.

    • It’s hard to say. There are a few items you can’t get without using the wireless tag mode(or cheating, which was my choice). And there are some optional postgame quests and items you get by downloading from the Nintendo WFC. But in terms of the local multiplayer, I’ve never tried it and haven’t really missed it any.

    rar, this is a gut-wrenchingly good deal — and by gut-wrenchingly I mean we don’t have a Target here omo;

    • Joanna

      I know. T^T

  • Eh I wish I waited to buy it now. Wasn’t worth 60 bucks.

    • Aoshi00

I got it for around $35 after the Amazon credit, so it was alright I guess… but it was definitely not worth $90 importing it… but I got the OST ($50) and Ep Zero book ($25), and getting FF Int’l ($55) as well.. this abomination had sucked up a part of my wealth lol.. but yea, $17 sounds fair for this game..

      • 50 bucks for an OST!? :oThat’s why I stopped buying japanese CD’s physically. xD

        • Aoshi00

yea, it was the first print LE w/ the drama CD (based on the 1st chapter of the Episode Zero prologue novel, wish they could’ve done all 7 chapters), the packaging was actually quite nice. The game wasn’t that good, but I liked some of the Hamauzu music.

  • RupanIII

If Amazon matches this I’m all over DQIX

  • MrRobbyM

Looks like it’s about time to get DQIX

  • Darkrise

Wait, this week is Black Friday? If so then SWEET! I need FFXIII after one of my friends xbox ruined the 3rd disc T.T.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

      EDIT: 2 more weeks! T_T
