Mario, Dragon Quest, And Final Fantasy… Together At Last?

By Spencer . November 11, 2010 . 6:31pm

We’ve seen a Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest crossover and a Dragon Quest and Super Mario crossover. Both took place in the mystical Monopoly-like Itadaki Street dimension.

But, characters from all three franchises together in the same game? That would be a first. Looks like it’s going to happen over hockey and dodgeball. Japanese message boards are buzzing about a tiny bit of text on the bottom of the official Mario Sports Mix site.

Notice how it says Final Fantasy characters and Dragon Quest characters? While Nintendo has not said anything about Dragon Quest characters or items for Mario Sports Mix, that copyright notice is there for a reason.

There’s one empty slot too… perfect for a Dragon Quest cameo, but which character will make the cut. Slime? Nah, I can’t imagine an armless slime excelling at any of the four sports in the game. Maybe the hero(ine) from Dragon Quest IX then?

but…isn’t the hero(ine) from IX created by the player themself? Or is there a popular “default” look that most people would recognize…

    • PurpleDoom

The default hero does appear on the box art for both the international and Japanese versions of the game, and he appeared in Monster Battle Road Victory as well (though that was a Japan-only release), so I’d argue that the default hero is fairly recognizable.

    final fantasy+dragon quest could work,but mario…
Rikku:eww~ who’s that weird big headed keyboard sized mustache short guy?

it really have a hard impact when you try to mix two different things into one.

I think DQ X was announced for Wii about a year ago. If I were SE, I would put the protagonist of that into this game.

  • They might think that this is a good idea, but it’s NOT.

      Why not?

      • RupanIII

        Probably this part

“Looks like it’s going to happen over hockey and dodgeball.”

You have to start somewhere. ;)
Who knows, maybe we shall see more cross overs in another game. Like someone mentioned, they would fit perfectly into Smash Bros., especially seeing as Snake and Sonic have already joined in.

  • puchinri

I thought there was one already with FF and Mario, but I guess it was just DQ and Mario. That’s new, I suppose…

    • Pretty sure one of the previous Mario Sports games had FF characters. But since this has all of the above, I may well take a look at it…

    • Yeah, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 has Mario + Final Fantasy characters. Mario and Dragon Quest hooked up in Itadaki Street DS.

Mario Sports Mix has all three – FF, DQ, and Mario.

      • puchinri

Ohh, right. I forgot about Mario Hoops.

  • EvilAkito

Such a cross over would be amazing in the form of a platformer or RPG (or a platformer-RPG), but I really have no interest in sports games.

damn for a second i thought it was gonna be an english version of Itadaki Street. *cries*

    • Code

      rarr, maann I know the feeling, I’d KILL for an english version of Itadaki Street T_T;;

  • pridesin

I don’t like this. It feels like they are just trying to suck the money out from fan base.

    • Phlo

It’s not like they’re forcing you, or anyone else, to buy it!

  • Haha, Final Fantasy Totally Pawn Mario!

  • capristrider

Nintendo, why not include characters from Legend of Zelda too (like Link obviously!) That would be more fitting. Nevermind, I hope they include Cloud. I hope it is a good crossover and remember “IT’S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG” ™

    Will have this … maybe a pre-order …

  • doomspeller10

They should make a Smash game that includes some FF and Dragon Quest (and hopefully Chrono) characters… that would be interesting… at least with characters appearing in Nintendo consoles.
