See The 3rd Birthday TGS Trailer Again, This Time With English Subtitles

By Spencer . November 12, 2010 . 6:08am

If you didn’t catch why Aya can dive into the minds of soldiers shooting tentacle creatures, this trailer for The 3rd Birthday should clear that up. Square Enix Europe re-released the Tokyo Game Show trailer with English subtitles.

OK, so Aya lost her memories and is having nightmares about her sister. Still nothing about the wedding dress, which seems totally out of place on the battlefield, but we’re told plays an important part in the game’s story.

The 3rd Birthday is slated for an early 2011 release in North America.

    This looks really good.
I think the voice acting is going to help the series a lot, seems very emotional and dramatic.

I agree though I expected Aya’s voice to sound a little tougher or deeper. She just dosen’t seem like the kind of girl that would have a weak, defenseless kind of voice.

I always imagined Aya to be someone like Clarice Starling.

Didnt the wedding dress symbolize something like “a new beginning” a long time ago in Japan? I remember Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile was wearing one when she became a Valkyrie. Maybe it relates to this game being a reboot.

My guess: She was holding a gun in it. She probably mind hacked the bride in a battle or something.

      • Joanna

That is a good theory except they were really highlighting the wedding dress and Aya keeps her cloths when she takes over another body. For example, in the CGI cut scene, she takes over a soldier’s body but retains her own clothes and not the ones the soldier was wearing.

    • Joanna

yeah, something like that. White is the colour of death in Japan (here it’s black), so the white cloth the bride wears symbolizes the death of her previous life. The men, of course, do not wear white, but that is to be expected from a patriarchal society like our own, where the woman was expected to change her whole life to suit the husband and not vice versa. :)

This game’s plot remains as ambiguous to me as before the subtitles… >,<

Where’s Times Square? I dont see any famous NYC landmarks like I did in the first PE game.

I thought they said it takes place in LA? Correct me if I’m wrong please.

Of course, I’ll watch it again… for Aya.

It looks great, I haven’t played any other titles in the series but it still looks amazing to me. I’m not too keen on the dripping tentacles though :S.

SE’s CGI is amazing as usual. I actually look forward to the CGI more than the next part of some of their game occasionally. Like in XIII, I was more interested in the next CGI scene than the story itself XD.

Looks to me like her memories had to be wiped out to become completely compatible with the Overdive system. I wonder what’s the real explanation for her amnesia though.
