Platinum Games Prototype Movies Show A Different Side Of Bayonetta

By Spencer . November 19, 2010 . 9:16am

Bayonetta looked different three years ago and the changes are deeper than a new HUD. An early version of the game from November 2007 didn’t have torture attacks. Bayonetta finished monsters off just with her weapons.

This video shows Bayonetta using a gun slapping attack and a battle with Jeanne.

    That is some bowlegged running…

    • Code

      Yeahhh, even in the final game, her run is kind of unwieldy xpx;

  • I like the fact that they decided to include the torture attacks. It made the game very unique. Also, it looks like they originally allow to save up the witch time.

    (How do you delete the comment completely??? I kind of login in different account. I want to delete this one).

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

      I could be wrong but you can’t, as far as I’m aware.

    • Its in the public domain, so therefore, cant be deleted; unfortunately.

    • Code

      I don’t think you can delete comments, you can edit them to be nearly blank, but if you delete them through disqus, it’ll still leave the comment here, but it’ll be listed as being posted anonymously. But yeah I love the Torture Attacks, my only wish was that there had of been more of them. Fighting grace & glories, and having to do the same spin the wheel torture attack over and over is a little much at times xpx;

      Thank you for the reply guys. I will just try not to make same mistake then.

  • Will they just go ahead and announce a sequel?! I want more Bayonetta and Jeanne. (oh and Luka).

    Nice video finds.

    • Testsubject909

      Hard to say…

      Do you want Bayonetta 2 to be Mikami’s last game? Should he go for a sequel/prequel to a game he’s already made? or should he try to re-establish a new standard to another genre?

    • I’d rather they wait a year or two before announcing a sequel, so that they have time to make a game that tops the original in every way.

  • Code

    rar, I just happened to be playing Bayonetta right now >ww<'

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

    Without the torture attacks the gameplay seems to flow more like Devil May Cry. Her torture attacks are a definte “hook”, like Ryu’s obliteration tecnniques or Kratos’s brutal quick-time finishers.

    • Code

      Or more importantly God Hand’s “God Reels” >w<;

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

        How could I forget God-hand? That’s the best comparison. A *true* Fist of the North Star video game. *DING*!

        • Did I just hear a Hokuto No Ken game with God Hand mechanics? Hahaha :D

          If they get rid of the RE and pre-Onimusha 3 movement control, I’ll buy it. Day 1

          • Code

            Actually I kind of forgot it controlling like that — I wouldn’t write off God Hand because of that though, after the initial learning curve (mostly for just how the game feels and the pace) honestly can’t think of any instances where the controls hindered me in the game >o>~! Seriously treat yourself to it sometime >w<;

          • Yeah, I finished it and thoroughly enjoyed for its wackiness and its japanese sense of humour (but I still wished it would control like DMC/Bayonetta).
            But I still find Level DIE a bit too tough for an average person like me ^_^’

            BALL BUSTER!!

  • Happy Gamer

    I’m the biggest Bayonetta fanboy lol. Its just that..well…im 29 and i have not been so excited about a game nor played a game i put 900% expectations to come out 9000% in quality. I played same levels over and over just kuz it was fun, not even for score, halos etc. That is very rare for someone my age…or at least I think. Honestly how we say games were good kuz when we were kids played Chrono Trigger and beat it like 50 times +.
    Realistically, lots of it has to do with the fact that we were kids…also had no games LOL.
    Bayonetta made me feel like a kid again.
    The game before Bayonetta made me feel like this was no coincidentially Okami.
    I played that game to death. I wanna play it again sometime.

    In the past 10 years only 2 games made me feel this way. Thank you Kamiya.

    I hope we get a Bayonetta sequal or even prequal is nice. Bayonetta isn’t a very story intensive game but for me it was perfect = Just plain, old simply great video game. Whatever happened to this “genre” lol.

    • capristrider

      I with you on this, I feel Bayonetta is special, I’m feel nostalgic listening to the Sega music/game references and the gameplay so tight and over the top, nothing comes close. The only other game that makes me feel like a kid again this generation is Demon Souls, both these games brought beads of sweat to my normally extra cool head and made my heart beat faster. Just like the Good old times!

  • When “mysterious destiny” plays in the video, I get all tingly inside. Makes me wanna play Bayonetta again!

    And I’m really glad they changed the costume from the early build

    • Testsubject909

      Indeed, change was good for Bayonetta…

      And now I want to go and get the ultimate weapon (The one that allows you to use all angelic weaponry at once an infinite amount of times).

      • That weapon’s good, but it’s sluggish :( I pretty much beat Rodin with Shuraba + Kilgore but I forgot how I did it ^_^’

        Here’s hoping that Bayonetta will have a quality sequel.

  • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

    I think it’s really cool to see how games evolve like this. Also, I like the “new” HUD better. Seems less cluttered

  • Chiupon

    I kinda like the old health bar. It’s stylish.

  • I’m glad they flew this build of the game to the moon in favor of what we actually got. The finished version seems a lot more refined and unique.

  • MemeticRichard

    I actually kind of like that old HUD… New one feels way too DMCish. Not that it’s a bad thing or anything…
