Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together Twists Fate In February [Update]

By Spencer . November 19, 2010 . 7:36am

imageSquare Enix set February 15 as the release date for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. The retooled PSP version lets players take back moves in battle to try an alternative strategies and view different story branches with the W.O.R.L.D. system.

It appears the pre-order bonus for Japan, a deck of tarot cards with illustrations from Akihiko Yoshida, is making its way to North America too. Square Enix mentions there is a way to obtain the cards here, but the official site hasn’t been updated with information how fans can get a deck.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together was released in Japan just last week on November 11 and it stormed the sales charts.

Update: The tarot cards are indeed a pre-order bonus. You can get a deck by reserving Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together at Gamestop or Amazon (US & Canada).

  • Tarot cards, I thought those were taboo in conservative America?

Anyway, February, ack, here comes a crowed first quarter of the new year…

    • gatotsu911

WTF are you talking about? Open up the phone book for just about any American city and you’ll find “Psychic Reading” listings. It’s finding someone who actually takes that crap seriously that’s the hard part. The whole thing is far less “taboo” than “passe”.

      • Not really, it depends on where you are raised and what your family structure is like. Some of the more religious amongst us will take these cards seriously just as they did Harry Potter. Although, it’s mostly just the Conservative christens who actually do.

        • gatotsu911

My point is that generalizing America in terms of conservative Christians, and for that matter generalizing conservative Christians as closed-minded and superstitious, is ignorant and retarded.

          • Well, you did a poor job of making your point clear, I am afraid. All you said was that he’s wrong because you can see numbers for the Psychic hotline in a phone book, which is retarded tbh. The majority of America may not care, but to generalize all Americans as you have is equally ignorant and retarded. We are also a very religious country, so wtf are you talking about?

          • gatotsu911

Your inability to cope with subtlety is astounding. Let me spell it out for you: the fact that psychic hotlines are commonplace in the US is indicative of the fact that superstition, e.g. psychics and fortune-telling, is sufficiently accepted by our culture to the point that, among the vast majority of people, it is not “taboo”. However, skepticism is also more common than superstition among the general public; bring up the topic of psychic readings to most people and they will laugh and dismiss it as a load of BS. Even among religious communities, the number of people who would view tarot cards as sacrilegious is extremely small. The number of people who would view it as a dated superstition, and even the number who would take it seriously without considering it an affront to God, far outnumbers those who would actually be offended by it. Is that a literal-minded enough explanation for you?

      Comment of the year.

      • gatotsu911

The gems of priceless ignorance never stop, huh?

        • Phlo

I kind of wish they would, and kind of wish they wouldn’t.

          • gatotsu911

            I know. I’m conflicted too.

    • cj_iwakura

      The Persona series says hi.

  • gatotsu911

Glad to finally have a release date. This is on my relatively short list of games I KNOW I will buy in the next 6 months.

  • Ugh, the same day as MvC3

Square, Capcom, I hate you both, you know that?

    • Darn, there goes close to $90 on the same day :( lol. Cant wait for both games.

  • fuzzy_hobo

February 15th will be a beautiful day for me and a sad one for my wallet.

  • d19xx

Wtf, another game from Squeenix getting a NA release within 6 months of its original JP release.

I’m not complaining, it just feels weird that Squeenix developing, releasing and localizing at a very short time frame.

I hope other Japanese developer/publishers can also follow their example…

  • neo_firenze

MvC3, Tactics Ogre, Neptunia… all revealed this week to be showing up the same week in February. I’m happy to get them all, but that’s gonna be a rough week on the wallet and on my free time.

    • neo_firenze

And jeez, Amazon showing Ys I&II Chronicles also showing up on February 15, and that’s an absolute must buy for me. What a week.

  • Aiddon

wait, isn’t that the same day as MvC3? Way to kill the game, Square. Don’t go whining if it doesn’t sell all that well

    • It’s on PSP, I’m not sure they’re expecting it to, to be honest.

    • Have they ever whined about their PSP games? Werent they the first company to get a PSP game to chart in the US…(BBS), their invincible on the PSP.

      • I’m pretty Sure Dissidia was on the list first… But apples and oranges, really.

      • Aiddon

huh????? You’re comparing Ogre Battle to KH and FF? That’s a COMPLETELY different world. THOSE games sold on brand recognition because, let’s face it, people already made up their minds about buying them when they saw FF and KH in the title. Tactics Ogre is completely different.

        • Since consumers research their games…a quick visit to the site that Square Enix NA, setup, makes it appear that one could even put this and compare it to FF, just look at the games credit list on that page, ALL of them affiliated with Final Fantasy.

Though I do not think brand recognition is the key…as Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light failed to chart in domestic America, so the games possibly didnt sell on brand recognition.

        • kupomogli

Yet you’re comparing MvC3, a fighting game, to Tactics Ogre, an RPG. “That’s a COMPLETELY different world.” Tactics Ogre is not going to sell as well as MvC3 that’s obvious, however it’s going towards a completely different market and MvC3 won’t do much to deter sales of Tactics Ogre.

  • RupanIII

Nice to see a date finally revealed, gonna have to preorder this

  • Exkaiser

It feels pretty good getting an email from Amazon bumping the shipping estimate from late March to mid February. Just sayin’.

  • The question is: Should we really cling together?

  • I do not preorder, but for Yoshida tarot cards I may well preorder this.

    • Im a bit appalled at the preorder bonus. I guess I would have liked a soundtrack or an art book better than some occultish paganist tarot cards. They are so taboo that I couldnt even take the cards out in public and such. A game that looks good but one that I wont be able to preorder. In the future they should be more accommodating to conservative America when choosing these bonuses.

      • If it cost them sales, they would. But considering the tarot cards have always been a part of the Ogre Battle series’ game mechanics, I think it’s safe to say that they don’t expect to be selling to anyone who would have a problem with them.

      • Aoshi00

If given the chance, the US politicians would ban video games first rather than some pretty Tarot cards, it’s not as taboo as you think, just like nobody cares about “black magic”, unless in Hellboy or something..

      • RupanIII

lol.. are you for real..? I just can’t tell..I’ve never heard any outcry over tarot cards. Don’t you remember Miss Cleo, she was on nationwide TV all the time! But maybe you’re from a really conservative part of America..?

        • There arent any tarot card or readers in this area and it seems to be taboo here, I guess thats what affect my viewpoint, lol.

          • RupanIII

Well I don’t think you’d get in trouble for having them lol

That said, I’ll agree that a soundtrack would’ve been a pretty cool bonus also

  • Maybe those cards become avaliable on the New Game+ :P

  • Aoshi00

I wasn’t paying attention to this game before because I sucked at FF Tactics (last strategy RPG I was able to beat was Jeanne d’Arc), but I would pre-order this for the Yoshida Akihiko illustrated cards :)

  • neocatzon

I want to see some fortune teller read your future with this pre-order bonus

    • RupanIII

lol Miss Cleo? Call me now for a free readin’!
