New Over My Dead Body Game In The Works?

By Spencer . November 22, 2010 . 10:10pm

image Back in 1999, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan published a creative RPG called Over My Dead Body. An Oni cursed the hero’s bloodline making his linage age fifty times faster, essentially reducing their lifespan to two years. You can still have children so the game follows your (many) offspring as they grow stronger through generations to break the demon’s curse. Check out this Insert Credit forum post for more information about the PsOne game.

Over My Dead Body has a cult following in Japan, the only region where Sony published it, and a tweet from the game’s creator, Shoji Masuda, sparked rumors of a remake. Masuda tweeted some time ago a good notice arrived. He’s going to let the publisher officially announce the title, but next year he will be super busy.

The tweet isn’t necessarily tied to Over My Dead Body, Masuda could be working on another game. However, SCEJ posted a survey about a new game in the series back in September and Masuda has been discussing such a project on Twitter.

Oh, I hope this is true. I never heard of the first one, but hell, I am desperate for a decent RPG, and man, does this one sound like an interesting concept. I have played alot of the ones offered (on the PS3), and hope it is for the PS3, IF it turns out true. SCEJ will win so much credit from me if this holds out true.

Also, it’s about time Miroku got a video game anyways.

    Elemental Gearbolt 2 on PS3, please :|

Convince Alfa to stop working on portables.
Anyway I wonder if SCE even needs them if a sequel were to be made. I bet SCE took ownership of the IP.

      • ShinGundam

Believe me, i tried to do that via E-mails and all i got is more portable games ;(

Certainly a Move title. though I just as soon see a HD version of the original game on PSN w/Move support.

  • Apache_Chief

    That sounds so cool.

  • evilhero

Oooh, so that’s what this game is about.

I watched several videos of it on Youtube. Very interesting game, but I had no idea what was going on.

  • HarryHodd

Hmmm interesting. Will SCEJ actually make a PS3 RPG?

    • godmars

Something like this, with a two gen console gap, will probably be on the PSP. Stay in Japan.

      Damnit.

Sounds like Dragon Valor with the continue playing as your offspring thing.

    I can’t imagine 1 year old man having a baby…

    • Aoshi00

Hiei from YuYu Hakusho turned out to be 5 yrs old, and I think Piccolo was about 3yrs old when fighting Goku the first time :) But yea, it’s a disturbing thought.. made me think of the movie Splice..

      Or knowing how to talk.

  • glemtvapen

Whoa. Almost anyone would’ve passed this game as one of those crazy wacky niche Japanese games just by looking at the cover art.

Who would’ve thought that weird cover hides an amazing game…

    • Aoshi00

I bought “Ore no Shikabane wo Koete yuke” on Jpn PSN along w/ MGS before because of the interesting title and high ratings, but the game really wasn’t my thing..and the cover looks weird indeed whenever I scrolled thru my library, w/ the kid starting right at you..http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/200706/05/41/b0049341_16364679.jpg

Seems like a psp2 title, if its coming next year…interesting concept.

  • Joanna

Interesting concept, especially because it sounds like you will be going through quite a few generations as oppose to the typical take with 2 or 3 generations only.Sounds like it’s going to be a portable remake being an underground hit and all…too bad cause I only have a PS3. :(

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I hope the answer to Masuda making another one of these combined with the likelihood of it making over here is not this game’s title.
