Nicalis’ portable version of Cave Story is complete and now available on the DSiWare store in North America for 1,000 DSiWare points ($10). Cave Story is a retro style action game that follows an amnesiac boy who wakes up in cave and discovers rabbit-like creatures called Mimigas.

Actually, if you haven’t heard or played Cave Story, there’s a downloadable demo on the Wii Shopping channel now. Go grab it or the free PC version. Nicalis added new modes to the WiiWare version including a boss rush, time attack mode, and the ability to play as Curly Brace.

Some of the additional content from the WiiWare port is in the DSiWare version, but it isn’t clear what made the cut.

So like, does this have all of the original assets from the PC version, or the horrible music/awkward pixel art from the Wiiware one?

It still makes me a little upset that the version that’s worse is the one that costs money..

You do realize that the Wiiware version has an option to give you the original graphics and music, right? You’re not stuck with the new stuff.

Some people just love to complain.

Not to mention Pixel himself approved the updated sprites…

Didn’t they patch the Wii version and fix the music?

I’ve already got it on my Wii and PSP. I’ll maybe consider it if they let you play DSIware on a 3ds as well, but I hardly play my DS as it is. I’ll pass…for now…

They confirmed DSiWare on 3DS back at E3 I believe, which is why I skipped out on getting a DSi (Also I knew the 3DS was coming).
