Gamestop’s Cyber Monday sale has PowerGig and Bioshock 2 on blue light special. Out of all the discounted games, we’d like to turn your attention to the Rune Factory series. Two of the Nintendo DS games, Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon and Rune Factory 2, are just $10.

Harvest Moon DS joins the $10 Natsume blowout, but you may want to consider Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar at $20 instead. It’s the most recent Harvest Moon game in North America. Harvest Moon: Animal Parade for Wii is also available for the same price.

Its a good deal but (not trying to dissuade anyone from getting those titles) if anyone has played rune factory 3, be prepared to feel a major difference between going back from 3.

The difference between RF1 and 3 is astounding. It took me a while to get used to RF3 when that came out. Crops are planted in a single space instead of a patch of 9. Stumps are chopped with a regular axe and you pick up your lumber instead of needing a charged axe and it being automatically deposited. There are many, many ways it’s a different game altogether.

I still can’t tell which I like more, though. They’re both absolutely entertaining and all that. But yea, you’re definitely right in giving fair warning that RF1 and RF3 play very differently.

How does 2 compare? I’ve heard some negative about 2.

          WildArms said it pretty well.

I didn’t like RF2 much. I only played about two weeks in before I got bored. Honestly, to me, RF2 is mostly just a stepping stone to RF3 in terms of innovation. RF1 is one of my favorite games on the DS because it had a pretty entertaining story and community. RF2 was moreso..meh. Nothing really fit in that game, to me at least.

But, all that is just my initial experiences. I wasn’t mentioning it because it’s really not my place to compare it to the other two games, haha. I’d say if you REALLY liked RF3, you’ll probably like RF2 well enough. It would be worth $10 at least, that’s for sure.

When I played RF 2 I got as far as switching to the child but by then I had gone through at least 1 year and spent lots of boring time trying to collect enough wood to advance the story to the second generation. RF 2 wasn’t well paced and you obtained the forge way too late in the game. RF 1 had good characters but unlike RF 3, they don’t feel as alive and part of the city

    • RF1 story’s was way better though, and i liked the fact in RF1 (RF2 or 3 dont have it) that you can marry before beating the game, so your wife even tells you pretty things once you beat the last boss.I liked second, but only the first part, it felt that after changing MC, it became kinda dull.. At the beginning it was fun, with the message board thing, they left it for RF3.3rd one is pretty fun, really upgraded game, but i feel that the faRming part is not as important as before. So far gameplay, the 3rds pwnz, story and interactions, 1st one, and best in innovation, 2nd

  • omg im in need for rune factory 2!
