Your Actions In Way Of The Samurai 4 Affect Your Next Life

The Way of the Samurai games are designed for multiple runs. Way of the Samurai 3 gave players all of the weapons and money they earned. Acquire’s next game goes a step forward.

Way of the Samurai 4 has a system known as proof of life, which carries your actions over to your next life. So, if you decide to needlessly kill everyone you see in Way of the Samurai 4 and then clear the game, you’ll see more guards in the next game.

Acquire highlighted a more specific example. As you may know, Way of the Samurai 4 deals with foreigners coming to Japan known as the Jet Jenkins. They don’t speak Japanese, which means you won’t be able to talk to them. You can convince the shogunate to open a foreign language study school in one life and in the next you can talk to different characters from the start of the game.

Japan gets Way of the Samurai 4 for PlayStation 3 on February 17. So far, the game has not been announced for North America, but Acquire has been searching for a publisher. That’s actually how we found out about Way of the Samurai 4 half a year before it was announced.

Fascinating! It somehow reminds me of some concepts I’ve read about regarding reincarnation and karma found in Hinduism and Buddhism.

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Indeed! I don’t know about Hinduism, but these are Buddhist concepts alright. Stuff that you do in this life will be reflected in your next life, good or bad (karma). I find the way Buddhism views rebirth/reincarnation as a fascinating thing. Always evolving, always striving to achieve that perfect state of consciousness. I wonder if that state will be reflected in the game… Nah, too deep, no?=P

Anyway, cool concept. Also, the game could use better animation work sometimes…

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Perfect state huh… could happen. Maybe the ultimate goal in the game is to become GODLIKE (all knowing, loved and revered) aka Bill Murray near the end of Groundhog Day.

Acquire is kind of like Irem… they make low budget games filled with interesting ideas that (sadly) only few people buy. I have to admit though, this game is… not a looker, that’s for sure.

Omg this pretty cool, i hope this comes, i love that you can do anything you want in these games

  • http://flailthroughs.blogspot.com Flailthroughs

That actually sounds like a really neat idea.

Interesting, I wonder what else you can do in this game.

  • HarryHodd

Real incentive to replay the game. Interesting. Enjoyed WOS 3 even though i didn’t really know what I was doing.

  • PrinceHeir

    definitely a exciting feature :D

Sounds wonderful, but no 360 version, no sale, sorry Acquire.

      360 can rot. (and yes I own a 360)

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

What do you have against the 360? (and no I don’t own a 360)

        • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

          Probably region locking

          • fallen

            Probably RROD percentages

          • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

            Probably Bill Gates

        • Aoshi00

I must say too many PS3 fanboys here, unfortunately… region locking, so is the Wii and PS2 and many other systems.. Bill Gates, that’s like saying a person who doesn’t like Reggie refuses to get a Wii to play Donkey Kong and Mario.. hardware failure was bad, but 360 isn’t the only system either (both of my 360s never got a RRoD except once due to my own fault, and MS replaced my Jpn system in no time).. so fanboys will be fanboys.. The thing is most people who own a 360 here also owns a PS3 and other consoles, but most PS3 people here only own a PS3 (I’m not referring you, just those who constantly praise their system of choice and put down the other systems they don’t own), why would someone who has a system want it to rot.. you know it’s a lie when people keep bashing 360 saying they own a 360..

I didn’t know how to play Way of the Samurai 3 though.. got it on sale played for a little and sold it.. got a couple of achievement but gave up after getting killed a couple of times..the game just felt a little weird to me..

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexander-Groce/100000039461956 Alexander Groce

In comes the obligatory anti-fanboy Aoshi00 to blow a joke out of proportion. Yay!

          • Aoshi00

but you gotta admit so many people hate the 360 though for no logical reasons..

      • malek86

Why would you want your 360 to rot? Imagine the smell. Must be like having a dead rat in the kitchen.

    • Hraesvelgr

Pretty sure the 360 version of WotS3 was announced/released some months after the PS3 version in Japan, so don’t count it out yet.

When are these guys going to make another Tenchu? Wonder if they even have the rights to it anymore.

    • HarryHodd

They’ve been teasing a way of the ninja game if that counts.

    • http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=2704923 Buntar0

You guessed right, they don’t own the Tenchu series. From Software does. I also want a new Tenchu, especially after seeing the Shadow Assassins ending.

  • http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=2704923 Buntar0

LOL @ jokes at the expense of foreigners.
    “サシミ, キモイね”
“Raw fish, that’s gross, isn’t it?”

You let the Shogun build a school just to understand that in your next life?
    I already love this game.
    Only in Japan!

  • Souji Tendou

Please localize this immediately after this got released Acquire.

  • Fredrik

Really want to play this. But I’m a bit worried we won’t see any english release, I mean, the previous game hardly sold well outside of Japan, did it?
