A DS Game Cafe Would Be Interesting…

A cafe where patrons sip lattes and play with their Nintendo DS? That could be a neat hangout. Maybe Nintendo is thinking of one since they filed a trademarks for DS Gamecafe in Japan.

Monster Hunter fans and other ad-hoc PSP gamers already have a hangout in Asia, it’s called McDonalds. Nintendo DS owners stop by there too, usually to collect Pok√©mon presents from Mac de DS spots.

Nintendo could benefit from a DS-only game cafe, though, especially if it was for Nintendo 3DS. That way people could see the glasses-free 3D effects for themselves. Also, a cafe would make the Crosspass features much more useful since people could gather in one place to trade data.

And you can materialize the french fries with the 3DS’s cameras, and eat them!

Wish I had such places to hang out where I live, but it seems that in my town, I’m the only one interested in such games that offer in-depth multiplayer on Nintendo DS and PSP (e.g. Dragon Quest IX, God Eater, Monster Hunter, etc).

We do a similar thing in London, it’s called the DS Meet. Basically, a large group meet up in a pub and play DS. 8 player Mario Kart, Bomberman, Tetris and beer make a surprisingly good evening.

Will be interesting to see how this takes off in Japan.
