Twelve Races, Sixteen Jobs, And The Dungeon Crawling Characters You Create

Starfish, makers of the Monkey King shoot ’em ups for Wii, also have a dungeon RPG series. Elminage III: The Disciple of Darkness and the Solar Palace is the third game in the series.

This time Starfish created a day/night/weather system. Here’s a look at a desert area under different conditions.

Elminage III: The Disciple of Darkness and the Solar Palace also has the usual dungeon staples: castles, forests, and caves. Before you venture out players can create a party of six characters made out of different 12 races and 16 jobs. After you create intrepid warriors you can customize their appearance with the style load system. This lets players character portraits and status screen images for party members by loading images from a Memory Stick.

Elminage III: The Disciple of Darkness and the Solar Palace is slated for a spring 2011 release in Japan.

Elminage is one of those series that has me routinely bashing my head against the wall in frustration when inevitably no western publisher wants to touch it.

Shame… Dungeon Crawlers are some extremely entertaining games.

Well, if you’re into them. But that’s the same as saying Sports games are extremely entertaining for those who enjoy them.

And as I see no need to bash sports games. I hope there’s not some stupid fan out there ready to bash Dungeon Crawling for being “too repetitive and tough and boring”…

      • i hate sports game and i like dungeon crawling games but i hate the first person view one! guess i got spoil but i have to see my character do an attack animation

This looks a lot like a certain other game on the DS. I don’t know which came first, but yeah….

You DO realize that Etrian Odyssey and Elminage are both Wizardry clones, right? Wizardry-style dungeon crawlers died out in the west, but they’ve been alive and kicking in Japan since the 80’s. Similarities are to be expected.

  • I don’t know why first-person dungeon crawlers have seemingly made a comeback over the last five years… but I cannot say that I mind.

  • Wait… you can create and customize how your character portraits look? Oh my god I am so in on this.

  • The way the dungeons look give me this “it’s too hardcore for you” vibe. I can see it’s going to be like Class of Heroes and Etrain Odyssey and thus looks like I’m going to have to give this game a pass…unless some gameplay footage convinces me otherwise.
