The Reminiscences Of Haruhi Suzumiya Beings After Her Disapperance

By Spencer . December 10, 2010 . 3:32pm

Namco Bandai is in charge of moving the Haruhi series forward and they’re doing it with a PlayStation 3/PSP game. The reason for the "/" is The Reminiscences of Haruhi Suzumiya is nearly the same on both devices. You can even exchange data from the PS3 version and continue the game on a road trip with your PSP. The difference is the PlayStation 3 version has sharper graphics and more voice acting.

The Reminiscences of Haruhi Suzumiya begins after the film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, but in a parallel world where the SOS Brigade doesn’t exist. The story is designed with branching paths and its up to the player to return the real world or not.

  • This series seemed to be huge in the US, I wonder if they will bring it over. It will greatly diversify their offerings with just battle anime.

    I love the series!

    • Namco Bandai

I would love to see a Haruhi game localized for the US (the adventure game by SEGA on the Wii was done very well)…but probably not going to happen. Unless you’re Dragon Ball or Naruto, the chances of an anime game in the US is slim (there are a few exceptions).

Namco CEO: lol not “western” enough
Random Employee: But sir have you ever been to an anime conv-
Namco CEO: HOW MANY TIMES MUST I TELL YOU!? THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ANIME! Perhaps you were thinking of DBZ or Naruto, the only shows in the world that use such an art style?

  • Ah, Gymnopedie No.1. is a perfect tune for the winter season. Fits the trailer, too.

It’s too bad this likely won’t appear overseas. I was planning on getting into the novels, but I’m not sure they even cover this part in them.

    • nyoron

Well this looks to take place during/right after the fourth novel (which was recently released in English), but it’s an original story so it’s not really covered anywhere else.

  • nyoron

After that trailer I get the feeling that they won’t be doing any 2D animated cutscenes which is too bad. But I’m probably more excited for this than I should be, hopefully it’s sorta playable with below-average Japanese skills.

    • kactaplb

unless yuki or koizumi goes off on their technibabble on god, parallel worlds, and time loops. *sigh*

    • Guest

Why would you want 2D cut scenes the graphic style here looks just fine without it

      • nyoron

While the 3D models look OK I was hoping for some new animation from Kyoani.

        • Guest

I think that looks more than ok though. Thats some really awesome 3D cel shade animation

    • I really like this 3D style, its really close to the anime but three di
Yeah i hope is not kanji heavy T_T

  • cmurph666

Needless to say since it’s a Namco Bandai game, and it ain’t Dragon ball, we won’t be playing this in English.

    • Hraesvelgr

A Haruhi game would never be released in English (officially) anyway, even if it wasn’t Namco Bandai.

  • It always amaze me how different haruhi looks with the long hair xD

  • Guest

NamcoBandai is now in charge? Great news that means its a shoe in for Western release!

    • JustaGenericUser

I see what you did there.

  • HarryHodd

If only there could be more PS3/PSP games.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Does anyone else wished more games looked like this? It’s not 2D but you can have a 3D gameplay this way.

Besides Valkyria, Ultimate Ninja, Vesperia, Idolmaster, Dream Club, Time Leap, and this… imagine more games from every genre with this kind of style, original IP not based on some existing franchise…

    I’d eat them up.

P.S. Someone wake me up when the Haruhi story finally wraps up so I can finish it in one sitting.

    • goronyan

      ( ゚Д゚)wait…”that” time leap!?

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Yes…? Haven’t actually played it, but Dood I like it on a purely aesthetics basis. X)

I mean, it’s the closest thing to playable anime!!

        • Woah this actually looks pretty good.
          Nice choice of videos btw

        • goronyan

it’s a great work form front wing but quite old. I recommend the new Love death from teatime

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

            But that’s… a straight up H-game from what I can tell… O_O
Its focus is… different… Presentation and style is bit too gaudy for my taste, and lacks well thought out cut-scenes that resemble an anime.

          • goronyan

well you can’t deny that most of these kind of games have this content. Believe me, time leap DOES have it. About Love Death 555, I was most focused about the 3d art style wich seems not to have pleased your expectations. It’s becoming kinda hard to find a good 3d “ren-ai avg” lately *sigh*. I could recommend White Album for ps3 but i dunno if it’s what you’re looking for. o/

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’m aware that Time Leap does have those scenes. But it doesn’t seem to be the main draw. It’s like any other visual novel, but expensively animated. Not that I love visual novels, I just want, say, an action game, a harvest moon-like, life sim, etc. with those kinds of graphics and presentation. My wish is really more of a dream than what I know is currently out there… :P

Thanks for the recommendation though. As for “3D ren-ai avg”, can your computer run Real Kanojo, the Crysis of h-games? XD Or is that too realistic?

  • DemonicX

I’m loving the style of this game. I’ll be importing it.

  • Can someone sit down and explain to me what this “Haruhi” thing is?

    • SolidusSnake

      it’s this anime about dancing.

      • Needs more UC Gundam.Oh, and some Master Asia for good measure.

        • SolidusSnake

I’m all about crushing robot heads with my burning hands

          • I think the East is burning red…

      • doubleO7

Have you seen the show? Its not about dancing. But it does have dancing in the ending credits.

Heres the official trailer which sums up the start of the story pretty good (and, again all of the dancing scenes in it are from the ending credits, not the actual show)

        • SolidusSnake

Nice try 007 or should I say laughing man? but I know perfectly well that haruhi is a dancing anime.
