The Letter Princess Peach Sent To The Press

By Spencer . December 11, 2010 . 12:00pm

As a throwback to Princess Peach’s habit of sending Mario letters with a power up as a present in Super Mario Bros. 3, Nintendo packed each press copy of Super Mario All-Stars with this letter.

    Heh, cute.

  • urbanscholar

    Very cute indeed.

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The last line signifies that the series needs to evolve the storyline or something, 25 years of finding her in another castle has got to be massively aggravating, I would have gave up after the 2nd year.

    • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Errr.. Since when has Mario games been about story?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GRBSTHG2AE2J2VJ6L7JFKYKEBY JC Beaudoin

Super Mario RPG? Paper Mario series? Mario & Luigi series?

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2UKKIGGOA4V5EIFXAD7BQQOV4 Heehee

Super Mario RPG. It is the only one just for me. When I play the game, I get lost in a phase. Then I found out I’m stuck in Geno’s maze.

        • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

You are brilliant. Pointing out that RPGs have story.

          • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

While Mario games do have story, I’ll agree with Angel that they have been about innovative – or at the very least – entertaining gameplay with story being secondary. Hell i’d even say Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach is a running gag and also proof that Peach and Bowser are getting jiggy with each other.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Excuse Me?! When have Mario games been about innovative entertaining gameplay? The last time I checked Super Mario Galaxy 2 involved gameplay that was exactly the same as Super Mario Galaxy 1 and that Super Mario Galaxy 1 involved gameplay that was exactly the same as Super Mario Sunshine, and that Super Mario Sunshine involved gameplay that was exactly the same as Super Mario 64. The games are the opposite of innovative. New Super Mario Bros Wii was exactly the same as New Super Mario Bros DS, and that was essentially the same as the vintage Super Mario Bros titles. Throwing in new worlds is not innovative.

          • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

Well for some reason, I can’t directly resond to you Tsunayoshi Sawada.

But well done for missing out on a phrase I said. Here let me remind you “…or at the very least…”

Do you know what I meant by saying that. This mean that, even if Mario games aren’t innovative, they are still entertaining. In fact, I agree with you about your choices (except for Super Mario Galaxy 2 because I haven’t played that). Super Mario Sunshine I enjoyed immensely, but I will admit it was not innovative. And New Super Mario Bros DS I was disappointed with. The only exception is the first Super Mario Galaxy as the way you went around the worlds, solved puzzles and defeat enemies was fresh enough to stand out from Mario 64.

Also, there have been several Mario titles that have been innovative in either a small or big way: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, Super Mario RPG come to mind.

You want a Mario game with a “real” story? Didn’t you see what happened to Sonic 06? No. No no no.

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

You do realize in his older posts, he says every sonic game is great, right? Including Sonic 06.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

This paragraph signifies that the user by the name Tsunayoshi Sawada needs to get a brain, This many years of finding him writing baseless and useless post that he has zero idea about due to his ignorance of anything with any logic whatsoever has got to be massively aggravating. I would have gave up after the 2nd year.

You think you actually know what you’re talking about? YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT. GET THAT THROUGH THAT INCREDIBLY DENSE HEAD OF YOURS. DON’T GIVE ME THIS “OH, I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT, YOU JUST DON’T KNOW”. YOU HAVE YET TO PROVE THAT YOU ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE PEOPLE TRIED TO EDUCATE YOU? FAR TOO MANY TIMES. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU LEARNED? MAYBE ONCE. LET ME TELL YOU STRAIGHT UP. YOU’RE OPINION IS THAT OF AN UNEDUCATED OBNOXIOUS 12 YEAR OLD THAT HAS NO RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

      • Avojavo

Chill, man… chill… Yes, TS’s posts can get obnoxious and rub off wrong. There’s an art to seeing his name and scrolling to the next poster. I’m probably missing the odd nugget of excellence from him, but it saves me from twitching in apoplectic fury.

Your happy happy avatar image doesn’t go well with caps lock text. Just ignore him.

        • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Yeah lol xDD, i think the same, he/she has a too happy/funny avatar to be using those kind of lines xD, Firo, just ignore him :P, its already been proven that there is not much we can do about it

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

And this is exactly why I lost faith in humanity. Even my favorite community filled with intelligent people, has become this…. Wasteland. All thanks of one idiotic manchild.

I might as well get off the internet and home school my (Future) children. (If I ever have any)

          • puchinri

Honestly, I loved Siliconera before, but after a while, that while that one guy with the long anime name (Fullmetal Gray something or another) bugged the heck out of me, and now TS does (and I’m so sad because both use names from good series). Where are they coming from, ya know?

And I shouldn’t have laughed, but I did. I’m sorry. (I wish I had children so I could use that line.)

          • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Ok, seriously, dont let that kind of people get the worst of you! Just ignore what he says, that’s all!, You are making him more important than he is, if you are letting him influence in the things you like. Cheer up man, most of the users here have tried all they can but there are some people that just… “no” -.-’

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

            @WildArms
Yeah, you’re right. I’ll just entirely ignore the guy.

            @Puchinri
Yosuke Fullbuster Uzamaki? Hehe. He’s TS. He just changed his name after being “flamed” so much by the users here, to start all over again.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

            @Puchinri
I don’t have children haha. I should clarify it in the original post…

          • puchinri

Oh, haha. Well if you don’t have children either, then I will definitely be using that line somewhere if it’s okay with you. And seriously? Oh goodness… I just… That explains so much. That’s all I can think right now. You think he would have gotten the picture by now though. I will give him that, he is persistent. The little bugger…

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Hey, Im pretty respectful. I read and listen with open ears to everyone and value everyone’s opinions. I think the key here is that, I have learned, at least once, and therefore am making progress in the forward direction. Certainly that counts for something.

I believe that I post valuable and often times am the first to present an alternative or a specific insight into an issue that acts as a catalyst for meaningful speculation, theorizing, discussion, and the education. I think I and others delight from the results of the side of an issue I present.

I can not emulate others same feelings, thoughts, and methods of thinking to present and express similar beliefs on these topics…However I think the one that does now know what Im always talking about, is you, you just dont know.

Ever since my reading and posting in these comments here on this mighty fine site since Aug 2010, I think I have just been misunderstood by a large majority of people, with posts that only serve as targets for people to launch brutal criticism filled rages at. But I have learned to continue to just post comments while I enjoy life and not to let it get to me, I know one thing, through the midst of it all, I still have a mighty fine time eating my chocolate chip cookies and educating myself on things I never encountered or thought of before.

There have already been so many constraints on what I can even do…no hyping of things I love like Naruto, no using adjectives to relate to games of previous generations, several beliefs I held that just cant be stated etc, so many constraints that it is too much to keep track of…

        • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

“Hey, Im pretty respectful. I read and listen with open ears to everyone and value everyone’s opinions. I think the key here is that, I have learned, at least once, and therefore am making progress in the forward direction. Certainly that counts for something. ”

NOPE. Yeah ok, you made the slightest progress imaginable. People, myself included, are just tired of ignorant and uneducated opinions thrown by you. You just can’t take a hint to keep your mouth shut when you need to. When you changed your name to TS, I decided to give you another chance. Everyone deserves a second chance. First few days, you weren’t half bad. Then right after that, you reverted to your old self, and went far farther.

“I believe that I post valuable and often times am the first to present an alternative or a specific insight into an issue that acts as a catalyst for meaningful speculation, theorizing, discussion, and the education. I think I and others delight from the results of the side of an issue I present.”

It’s like I’m talking to a brick wall here. You whine about normal difficulties being too easy. You whine about the sales of games = quality. You talk about INNOVATION THIS AND THAT and you know what? Everything you play lacks it. Everything you play is a spin-off, rip-off, sequels, and an endless amount of rehashes. You know what you do? You love them, call them innovative, and you think in the most mainstream method as possible.

“Ever since my reading and posting in these comments here on this mighty fine site since Aug 2010, I think I have just been misunderstood by a large majority of people, with posts that only serve as targets for people to launch brutal criticism filled rages at. You post the stupidest things and like I said 3982374928374293847 times before, you ENFORCE your opinions down EVERYONE’S throats, and EXPECTS them to like it. You can’t see that for yourself, then it’s time to open your eyes.

You think you’re this one “misunderstood” little boy? You’re 6 years older then I am.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Dude!!!!, lol,? Is it really a flaw in the most mainstream method possible? Perhaps I enjoy, or just love these mainstream games and the direction they are going. The games feel innovative or just new to me because it is often times my first time experiencing series and genres like ever before. I desire innovation in games, but as is always the case, we live in a world in which my desires do not dictate the direction of the companies that make decisions based on dynamic market conditions. What does that mean? Well it means that I have to abandon my desire for innovation and just play games that I deem to be awesomely epic phenomenal experiences, and as is the cast, they are just continuing entries in longstanding series, spin-offs, rip-offs, sequels, and an endless amount of rehashes. Perhaps because I think in the most mainstream method possible, that I love those games to death. I do not think it is a flaw for me or something that others want to fault me for.

I am honestly at a loss of words regarding the statement of enforcing my opinions down everyones throats…someone mentioned it before and I changed the way I state my opinions that are based on truths and numbers.

        • puchinri

You know, I won’t say anything about you saying the Mario games haven’t been innovative, but that just begs the question, what do you think is innovative?

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

What do I think is innovative. Well it would be taking the genre that they are in and putting them into others, like Mario to Mario vs DK Minis or Mario and Luigi Partners in Time etc. Sonic then Sonic Brotherhood…while not continuing on the main motherbranch of games.

I guess innovation within the genre would be taking the formula and turning it upside down. Wasnt Metroid Other M a form of innovation for the series, First Hunt as well, Metroid to Metroid Prime?

Sure series are series, but you have to admit if a series has been out for 25 years and the only stage of innovation was going to the 3D realm, then something else should at least come with it. Perhaps I dont understand the lack of this innovation since I have not play each game successively but as an outsider looking in, it looks like the same old formula, that may be fun but innovation has never been bad.

          • puchinri

…So basically just do spin-off titles and not main series stuff? That has nothing to do with innovation.

It depends on what you’re looking at. In general, I hear it isn’t, but to some degrees, it is. Did you play it? What was innovative about it too you?

And nothing has to be turned upside down for something to be innovative. Innovative would be a artsy or stylish graphics (Okami, Skyward Sword) rather than ‘here’s some HD cel-shaded stuff for you’. Or an innovative gameplay like Katamari series, Flower or Zack & Wiki. Even an innovative setting is good (Opoona, Earth Seeker, Mario Galaxy).

I notice you tend to have a very linear and simplistic way of looking at things.

SMG may not be innovative to you because you’re looking for something that simply wouldn’t fit there. The gameplay has its innovative bits, the setting is certainly done well and it has its other parts. Innovation is not as simple as graphics, and it doesn’t need to be a huge shift in genre or story. That’s just missing what innovation is about entirely. Sometimes, innovation is subtle, and sometimes it needs to be.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Yeah, I dont look for anything complicated or complex about things. In my world every entry would be innovative and groundbreaking for a series. Of course the real world doesnt operate like that so I have to be content with whats outthere.

I guess what you are getting at is that, perhaps the realization of what the innovation is, comes after playing the previous entries and feeling some sort of change or noticing it; something that one who is just new to the series or hasnt been playing them for awhile would notice; I guess thats the subtlety?

I would just like it to go beyond graphics. Or for Mario to just adopt a story, nothing will change the essence of Mario that people of all ages have come to enjoy but they could do something to make the experience more enriching, or embrace the things that games are doing in tackling and rivaling hollywood productions with outstanding levels of cinematics, story, presentation, and production values, character development, etc.

*blushes* Oh, but!… it’s.. it’s too soon princess!

  • http://otoboku.se manga

So Nintendo gave out that Peach and Mario is a couple or have deep feelings for eachother?

Why are they leaving Luigi out from the mix? It´s no fair for him. But oh well. Nintendo really need to find some more series that they can develop.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

      I thought that was obvious?

  • Aoshi00

I love it when the chars speak to us, like those Reanbell tweets on the Jpn Resonance of Fate blog, so cute :)Is the game like pre-sold out on Amazon or something? I thought I have no rush of getting this even at $30 (since I heard the soundtrack isn’t that great and it’s not like I haven’t played these to death alrdy and now this is no different than the SNES game) and it might drop to $20 or you get buy 1 get one half off deal later, but if it’s rare and sold on ebay later then I don’t want to miss this.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

It occasionally goes sold out and then back to appear on Amazon…I was going to get it, but the reviews of the package kind of made me not want it anymore (only 10 songs, the book isnt as extensive as I thought, I probably wont play the games…)

      • Aoshi00

If you haven’t played them or don’t own the old ones in any form, I would say it’s still worth owning them all on a Wii disc. But yea, the 10-track soundtrack sounds underwhelming, they made it sound like it had 50 tracks.. people mostly got it for nostalgia’s sake.

I think I want this for my collection eventually, but my dilemma is if I should pick it up day one for $30 + tax before it becomes ultra rare, or it might not be that limited at all and go on sale later for $20 or those buy 1 get 2nd 50% off deal 1 month later, or mere days later around Christmas. Maybe I should just leave it… if Kmart is giving like $10 coupon that would be a no brainer (SMB 3 was my favorite).

  • http://www.samuraiprincess.com Mr Fwibbles

So what’s the power-up? Is it imaginary? The way the letter reads, you’d think there would be a pin badge or something with it.

    • thaKingRocka

      I was wondering the same.

      • Aoshi00

I was wondering about that too, but it’s Nintendo, so it’s not like it’s pre-order free DLC or something.. plus the game is a straight port so there’s no new power-up.. unless it’s a cool mushroom plushie, like the Sonic hat w/ Sonic Colors :)

        • puchinri

It would be nice if registering the game on Nintendo club got us something extra.

          • Aoshi00

Yea, but probably still nothing to be used in game.. I always register my new DS and Wii games on the site (sick of doing those surveys lol), I have like over 1000 pts now, I haven’t redeemed them for any of the goodies yet, wondering if I should get both Game & Watch collection…

    • Testsubject909

It’s most likely a “Performance Enhancer”.

Take it in any way you want.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

    Rosalina > Peach.

  • Code

    Haha nice >ww<'

Although personally I always hated the rendition of Super Mario Bros. on it, it's so much worse, compared to the NES. Luckily Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 on this do feel like the originals and just feel like a nice visual update.

    • NeoTechni

Bad news. The letter is for the press only. Not for people who actually pay for the game

      • Code

lol, it’s just a letter, no big deal, I was referring to the box itself. Guess they all sold out instantly though today so guess I don’t have to make any decision >w<'

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2UKKIGGOA4V5EIFXAD7BQQOV4 Heehee

Dammit. Whenever I send a letter back, it keeps returning to me, and I keep on writing to different castles.

  • NeoTechni

God damnit. This is the kind of crap I hate. Quit giving stuff like this to reporters instead of your paying customers.

  • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

This letter seems to point to having an affair with Peach, being sent a power-up, not telling mario, keeping that power up handy and finding princess peach in another castle…Yeah it may seem she just wants to be friends but she’s totally wanting – whoever takes her up on the offer – to be found to engage in some scandolous romance while giving Mario the run around.

    • Aoshi00

The ‘stache hurt her lips :)

  • Testsubject909

    So… She sent me Viagra?

  • malek86

Is Peach going to give us 60hz support? No? They can keep it then.

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

“Oh… look, princess, I’m touched and honored and all, but… there’s someone else. Think you could hook me up with Rosalina instead?”
Anyway, I’m a fan of gaming-insider jokes and this is kinda funny with the “other castle”. Just wish it was included in the retail version too.

  • Jirin

If I didn’t still have an SNES in my closet I’d definitely get this. (So long as it doesn’t make you shake the controller a lot like DKC Returns.)

I wonder about a Peach/Bowser affair. She’s just gotten kidnapped too many times, you’d think King Mushroom would implement better security. My theory is, Peach gets intentionally kidnapped to be with Bowser, then when Mario shows up to save her, Bowser throws the fight to protect Peach’s secret. What’s Bowser planning to do with her anyway? He has plenty of time to devour her before Mario shows up. Yep, total conspiracy.

  • ipatz

She is trying to cheat on Mario. That’s why she told you not to tell Mario. She wants you to go find her at a secret place where Mario not knows about. She even knows that Mario will be jealous. Poor Mario, save her many times yet she’s cheating on him. :P

  • Aoshi00

Just a heads up. Kmart did it yet again, $10 coupon when buying Mario All Stars (good thing I didn’t pick up a copy when I passed by Gamestop yesterday). Now no excuse, go have an affair w/ Peach!

AC Brotherhood ($50) nets you a $20 coupon as well. Can nothing stop this spiral of good deals :).
