Disgaea 4 Seen In The Eyes Of Etrian Odyssey’s Artist

Yuji Himukai is perhaps best known in the West as the artist for Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey games. That’s his work on the cover of Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City.

Nippon Ichi asked Himukai to be a guest illustrator for Disgaea 4 and drew this picture of prinnies lifting a Daruma.

    Nicely done, but too much use of full black shadows in the Disgaea artwork.

      I agree. I like the content and composition, but I’m not really a fan of the style. It’s like anything shaded, he went through and inked solid black. That said, I’m still saving it–I love Disgaea’s lady samurai class.

        Yeah that’s exactly what he did, inked the shadows black instead of a darker shade of that same color. I like the lady samurai in this pic; more specifically her pose. =]

      Well, that’s his style. What would the point be if it was exactly the same as all the other Disgaea artwork? :)

      Oh, I was just going to say I thought the black shadows made it really stand out! It has more of a western comic book style, I like it!
      That said, it wouldn’t do if we all liked the same!

      I searched for his name there and didn’t get any results aside from a 9 or so pictures, but those looked like other artists tried to draw in his style.

    I always loved how this illustrator draws/color, and this looks pretty cool xD But he is just perfect for etrian odessy series ._.

    When I saw just the titles “Etrian Odyssey” and “Disgaea” in the same sentence, my excitement just exploded!! And then I read the whole sentence and realized it was just some artwork which is still cool, but for a split second my mind thought of some kind of new EO game
