Knights Contract is coming to Europe and North America in February. Actually, we get it a few days earlier on February 22.

Game Republic’s next HD title focuses on Heinrich, a witch executioner turned immortal by Gretchen, a resurrected witch he beheaded. Gretchen, controlled by the computer, casts spells, but Heinrich has to protect her because she is not immortal.

Not all witches are as kind. Namco Bandai shared screenshots of two malevolent witches, Trude and Straeggele who appear to be formable foes.

Wheres the HUD? I need an HUD, dude!

Well this will be interesting to see upon its release, but its releasing at a terrible time with other high profile titles around its release, like Killzone 3 for fans on the PS3, and Bulletstorm. So we have to make a decision between getting a questionable title or ones with more compelling game, graphics, and environments.

“Wheres the HUD? I need an HUD, dude!”

Actually, i wish more games had the option of removing the HUD, or at least making it only appear when you are fighting (like Shadow Man). With a plasma screen, HUD can be a pain. It gets stuck there for a while, and while it’s not permanent anymore, it will still be annoying if you want to watch a movie on the evening.

I still say Dead Space had probably the best idea, where there was no HUD, but you had all your info onscreen.

Although the 2nd half of February IS a really busy time, I’m not sure there’s much that directly competes with Knights Contract as a third person action game. Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 are FPS, which really tend to attract a different crowd. There are a bunch of other releases in mid-late February too (MvC3, Neptunia, Tactics Ogre PSP, Ys I&II Chronicles), but again none of those really strikes me as much of a direct competitor.

Probably actually better for Knights Contract to come out with those games as its main competition, than to wait for later in the year and have to deal with the more similar and more hyped third person action games like DmC, Last Guardian, Shadows of the Damned, Gears 3, etc.

AMZN failed me with the rest of the releases as neptunia, tactics ogre psp, ys I &II were still listed with no dates :(, though thanks for bringing up that they are all february, now to add to my list, lol.

        (DmC is 2011?!)

I must admit, I liked Folklore for its setting and atmosphere (if not for its fighting, which got a bit boring), Dark Mist was an ok little game (though the expansion makes it a lot better), and the demo of Majin convinced me to buy the game when I can find it at 30€ or so.

So these guys definitely have at least my attention. I especially like their design choices for scenarios.

Edit: oook then, I just found a retailer that sells Majin for 20€. This will make for a nice Christmas present. If it arrives.

Where are the cutsie Anime characters we’ve grown to love from afar (overseas) from Namco?

    • Yukito

In Japan. Namco wants us to like only the testosterone dipping men and skimpy, seductive women. We aren’t good enough for their anime stuff anymore.

    • malek86

Not from Game Republic, that’s for sure.

I still say that GR should have stuck with Sony.

So we can behead the boss…..?? like seriously hack it repeatedly and slash it off? sound saucy if thats the case~~~ hehehehehe..

btw, whats with the obsession in old men character designs from japan companies???

Obviously, you don’t understand Western tastes. We require all of our characters to be ugly old men in order for us to make a purchase. Everybody knows that us Westerners would never dream of buying a game with a Bishi main character. Why look at how huge a flop the Final Fantasy series has been in the West! We wouldn’t dream of buying games with main characters like Cloud or Vaan or Squall or Tidus. That’s also why Nier was such a giant monster hit and has been on the NPD top 3 for the past six months. We love our ancient musclemen!

I think Nier’s not manly enough. He needs a gun and a space marine suit while shooting everything in sight. That’s my dream guy

Yeah, if I had any complaint about the character, it was that his head wasn’t shaved like a real man. Long haired sissy! But his biceps were acceptablely large enough that I forgave his lack of a buzz cut.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

If Nier looked and spoke like Hulk Hogan everything would have been a-ok.

Paul up there would’ve approved, I’m sure.

Yea, I am tired of prepubescent children saving the world. Needs more facial hair, and more life experience instead of HURRRR WHY CAN’T WE GET ALONG HURRRR I HATE ADULTS HURRRR THEY JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND US. Less whiny emo bitches Japan. kthxbai.
        Vesperia did it right.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present exhibit A in my thesis that sometimes “Real life imitates sarcasm.”

Hmmmm… I have very little interest in this, even though I did enjoy Folklore.

That said, I love the design of Straeggele and Trude. This seems like the type of game that would benefit greatly by a huge and ominous orchestral soundtrack that vaguely resembles the music from “The Omen.”

I won’t be picking this up when it first comes out, but if they can do enough in the next year to convince me to pick this up at discount, I might get it when it’s $30.

  • DemonicX

Seems like it could be an interesting game, but it has not sparked my interest at all yet.

  • Yukito

And, once this game hits 20k sales max for each console, the goose is cooked completely for Namco.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

To be fair, this was planned alongside of Majin and Enslaved, so they might as well go through with it… But you are right.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Having all the trappings of a failure before it’s even released (discussed in detail on here from those Bamco news stories), this game probably deserves better from what I can tell. Although not always to my taste, Game Republic has a knack for visualizing traditional European fantasy.

  • PrinceHeir

    looks interesting :D

will be trying this for sure :)

The storyline and presentation look fun. Count me in as one of those looking forward to this game.
