Steam Celebrates Holiday Spirit With Another Crazy Sale

By Kris . December 20, 2010 . 4:53pm

On account of it being a happy time of the year (hopefully), Steam has a sale going on! Note, however, that this sale is specifically for the holidays, and that can only mean one thing: Steam’s trademark insanely-low prices.

Today’s sale has some absolutely incredible deals, for instance, including the recently released indie darling, Super Meat Boy, on sale for only $3.75, and the Deus Ex Collection for a measly $2.99. Perfect if you want to catch up on the series before the sexy-looking Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out.

Also of particular note are the sales on the entire Prince of Persia series since Sands of Time, and the brand-new Oddboxx — a compilation of the often overlooked Oddworld series, including the formerly-Xbox-exclusive Munch’s Oddyssee and Stranger’s Wrath.

There’s a ton of other stuff on sale today as well, like Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale, which will be half-off until the sale ends on January 2nd.

Honestly, there’s too much to list, so you’ll want to head over to Steam and look the different sales up yourself. Today’s just Day 1 of the sale, too, with more to come in the next couple days, so keep your eyes peeled if you want some fantastic games without burning a hole in your pocket.

For the people here who complain that gaming has become too easy, you better try Super Meat Boy and don’t advance in a level until you can A-rank it.

It’s definitely one of my contenders for GOTY 2010.

I was just gonna say something about how I’m disappointed Super Meat Boy got such little coverage on this site. It’s hardcore for the hardcore, no doubt!

      • Kris

We’re working on potentially doing a bit more indie coverage!
(Also, to anyone else, definitely check out SMB, it’s awesome.

There are several indie devs out there working games that might draw interest here. Hanako Games has one out called Cute Knight Kingdom that’s a Princess Maker styled game, without the dirty parts. They and winter wolves have also done some respectable English VN-lites and life sims with the renpy engine. There are also plenty of legitly translated dojin novels out there too.

I totally should have waited a couple days for this sale to pick up Meat Boy, but on the other hand the game is totally a steal at $15 and Team Meat is a couple of cool guys.

      Great game.

F my life, I just bought my friend Deus Ex like 2 days ago and now the collection is 3 bux instead of the 10 I paid for only the first game

Oh well. I wonder if my laptop can run Super Meat Boy

      Desu Ex?

What’s that, Rozen Maiden’s official game?

      • PrinceHeir

Could Steam do to GameStop what Netflix did to Blockbuster?

    • M’iau M’iaut

Probably not, since PC is such a tiny part of GS anymore. GS has also taken steps with Kongregate to get into the indie and flash side of things. I’d say Steam’s gonna have more of a problem with non-DRM and non-client downloading sites — and by this I mean legit ones.
