Behold! The First English Hyperdimension Neptunia Trailer

By Spencer . December 21, 2010 . 6:47pm

NIS America gave us a first look at their version of Hyperdimension Neptunia, you know the game that takes place in the world of Gameindustri. Four console goddess protect this world, but the evil Arfoire (haha) is ruining it with monsters.

Neptune and mascots from other Japanese developers like Compile Heart, NIS America, Gust, and Idea Factory join forces to save the day. They’ll have help from classic Sega characters too like Alex Kidd and Shinobi who act as summons from R/W discs.

While the trailer has English voice acting, Hyperdimension Neptunia also has a Japanese language track with English subtitles.

Hyperdimension Neptunia is on track for a February release in North America in regular and limited edition art book bundle flavors.

A tip of the hat to Matty for sharing the video link. Thanks!

  • What did they say in spanish means late, er, tarea, thats it. Well late because someone had linked it in the comments earlier! jk.

Regardless of when it was posted it is epic. The English voice acting is awesome! I so can not wait and those cutscenes are great voiced too ^_^.

    • Late is “Tarde”, “Tarea” means homework o.o

      • What? Tarde is the same in English and in Spanish? I thought that couldnt be, I was sure Tarea was “late”, lol. We would always go “no tarea” in class, it only made sense if it was “not late”.

        • Wait… i didnt understand very well when you said “the same in english and spanish” Tarde is in spanish and it means late in english, while tarea (spanish) means homework (english).

It made sense though, is like you were saying, “no homework” xD “not late” would be, “no tarde”… but saying it literally would make you sound like a caveman, so is better to say “no llegue tarde” wich literally in english would be “I didnt arrived late”

          • I guess I meant that the Spanish “Tarde” sounds a lot like the English “Tardy” and, I guess, means the same thing. But if tarea truly meant homework, then, lol, I feel so silly now in class, since the whole time we were saying that “we had no homework” instead of saying “we were not late.” lolololol.

          • FHOIW

          • i think he was doing a pun between tarde and trady
oops he explained it, but i cant seem to see where this tarde came up i missing something here?

    • Darkrise

Green Hearts was… a little weird and White Hearts sounded a little too old.

      • I somewhat wish purple’s voice went to Green, Black and White switched and Purple got a little more… “cuter” voice I guess

    • Yay! I like the voices too!

      • Had a lot of women in the recording studio eh? >8D

        • Volcynika

          NickyD must be pimpin’ it.

  • Vino (Tim N)

I liked the English voice track =)

    • Me too =)

    • Xeahnort

      totally agree!

    • And I hated it with a fiery passion :3

    • I found it despicable, like just about any dub of this kind of game. :P

      • Guest

        Dessssssplicable! *spits while talks*

  • As i said before, i wont miss out that limited edition box!!! and still waiting for ar tonelico 3’s, i hope is something cool as well, that game will be first day buy for me

    • Ditto

But are artbooks really worth it? Btw do you know if these artbooks from NISA are in English or in Japanese? (If they contain text, that is..)

      • They are in english, and they are pretty nice quality books, i always enjoy to watch the ones i have every once in a while, they basically have drawings of the characters. But sometimes may contain info about a character, like their personality or w/e.

The best part of them is to have some phisical good, and that the drawings are normally hard to find (or just made for that book) or a recollection of many drawings, etc

Compile Heart will never make a good game

    • Darkrise

They will always make a decent game.

      • That’s about right :D, they are still in the “ma~ ma~” for a way to put it in the japanese language xD

    • A GOOD GAME, COULD YOU DEFINE WHAT A GOOD GAME IS?! A game that you enjoy?! or a game that i enjoy? or a game that 10 people enjoy but you didnt!? WHAt is TRULY A GOOD GAME?! IS LIKE SAYING, “Oh! he lived a good life” but if you didnt liked the way he lived is it still a good life?! IS IT!?

      • dude you fucking made my day

p.s. that like is from me

        • Haha xD thanks lol, i just felt kinda inspired, ive been trying to write an essay all day -.-‘ so my mind is on the edge now

      • Lol. Did you just throw in a MIB reference in there?

        • Lol i didnt thought someone would remember that xD Yeah, that last part just suddenly came into my mind…

          • Well, I saw both movies when they were in theaters and watched them on network TV 3 or 4 times each. Those endings are pretty unforgettable anyways.

      • OVERUSED

        Calm down

This game looks really bad (to me)

        • Ahh dont take me too seriously either, i was joking in a way, but what i said is truth for me, i just overeacted and made it in a kinda funny way xD

      • Darkrise

lol, this comment was just full of win. xD

  • Darkrise

    LE exclusive to U.S gamestop I bet…

    • Ereek

More likely exclusive to NISA’s store before Gamestop. Even with Gamestop having an exclusive set, NISA’s store had the better set.

      • Darkrise

True, but there’s also that ridiculous pricing of the shipping fee that makes just about anyone hesitate. =/

  • i’m usually fond of english dubs but those groans at 1:29 sounded so weird

  • PrinceHeir

im glad it’s dual audio track, so we can enjoy both worlds :)

also is that Michelle Ruff i hear? i cannot count how many time’s she been in games like these.

    • NISA just loves her that much. :)

    • I don’t think you heard her in the trailer =)

  • PrinceHeir

i can’t seem to find online stores that sell this game?

amazon doesn’t have it, so can anyone give me a link that sells this?

    • NISA usually announces when their games are available for order. You can sign up for their newsletter as they announce through there first most of the time.

      • PrinceHeir

        thank you sooo much :D

even though games like this generally don’t sell well in the west, im willing to support them ^^

i’ll be buying this alone with the Altelier Rorona, Ar Tonelico 3, Agarest War Series, and Rune Factory 3 ^^

  • HarryHodd

This looks like fun. I expect this to be better than Trinity Universe.

  • Well, uh, I’m still not all that interested in this game. I don’t think I can ever get myself to purchase, or even play it. Ever.

However, I hope that it sells well enough so that it increases the chances of Totori coming over here.

    • The way the guy responded on the playstation blog when someone asked about totori today was intriguing.

  • I’m so pumped! Cannot wait to get the limited edition!

I thought the english would bother me but I actually enjoy it.

Finally a great looking unique game… and you can summon your own pictures *Drool*

  • pridesin

Is this game good (as in story and gameplay wise)??
or is it all about female characters with sexy costume??
(Watched trailer, but not sure the story is going to be good)

  • Barrit

So the box at the left is the box art and the one at the right is the art book cover I’m assuming? What did they cover up the boobs with on the box art? It sorta looks like clawed hand, but also like a spikey purple meteor or something.

    • I’m not sure… but, it’s still official art, at least:

      • Barrit

oo I see. I guess they combined that picture with the box art lol. It was hard to tell if that was suppose to be her arm since it seems too big to be her own hand and the colors are a little off when you compare this to the video. Plus her other hand is missing. Either that or an evil arm from the side of the screen was about to grab her.

O the silly censoring in the US lol.

  • zhemos

wow, I actually liked the english voice acting. I’ll still probably use the JP audio though. :P Can’t wait to get my hands on that art book. I wonder if the box will be high quality like their anime releases?

  • Honestly, the only thing I’m bummed about is the lack of an OST being bundled in the Limited Edition. I seriously wanted a legitimate way to get my hands on the OP.

But I guess I’ll have to go about other means. Still gonna pick it up though, hardcover artbooks, no matter how few pages it may be, are still nice collectors items.

  • I love u NISA!

  • kariohki

I wasn’t interested in this when it came out in Japan, but now I’m all over the impending English release. Especially with an artbook as a bonus >3<

And haaa, I think I heard Wendee Lee as one of the characters. She's everywhere. The other three all sounded like Michelle Ruff XD At least there's no Laura Bailey…

  • Damn, this once again reaffirms my hate for dubbing these kinds of games…

So glad that this game is gonna have Japanese with English subs. I probably wouldn’t buy it if it hadn’t… Anyway, looking forward to it! :3

    • gatotsu911

Surely you wouldn’t want to miss out on this game’s cultural nuances and subtle characterization that might be lost in an English voiceover. God forbid.

  • Is that all that comes with the “Premium” box set? Jeez how about a little bit more. Also, I’m so turning on the Japanese voice option when I get the game :D Not Inuyasha horrible but not exactly something I want to hear for 20+ hours.

Hmmmmm…If the heroes were males, would anyone actually be interested in this game? Just a thought.

  • “Hyperdimension Neptunia also has a Japanese language track with English subtitles”

    I can finally relax now…*phew*

    • Guest

Yes we wouldn’t want you to Otaku rage out

  • Just so people know, the voice of Purple Heart and Neptune are the same girl. She did a wonderful job of becoming “mature” to match the shift in Japanese.

    • I always play games with english voices (unless is a game like naruto where im used to japanese voices)
I really liked black heart voice, also i can see what you said about purple heart, i liked how she said “i wont go easy” xD really match her childish mode, and in the beginning she was the “not childish” mode, it sounded different.

Also, i hope people know that uploading a video to youtube can put the audio in a really bad quality, specially voices, is hard to voices sound as good as they should in a youtube video.

  • gatotsu911

I’m dismayed by how thoroughly unironic this game’s approach seems to be. The whole reason I noticed it in the first place was because the concept seemed so hilariously absurd; rather than going the much more sensible path of silliness and self-mockery, this game instead appears to be going for straight-faced otaku-baiting. And that’s terrible.

Also, those are graphics for a PS3 game?? You coulda fooled me.

    • I dont understand. Why so fixed on the graphics? Its not like they look atrocious, and what matters most in an RPG is the battle system and story, and the connection to the characters, not the visual appearance. I think the game is meant to be lighthearted and fun, well thats what it appears to me.

      • gatotsu911

I can’t believe I’m hearing this from the guy who had trouble comprehending why someone would want to play Dragon Quest VI over Neptunia.

        • He contradicts himself all the time bro.

          • gatotsu911

That doesn’t make it any less amusing to point out.

    • The only game that i could define as “ps3 graphics game” is metal gear 4, and i dont expect every game to be like that

      • gatotsu911

You must not play a lot of PS3 games, then. Also, “Metal Gear 4” and “Metal Gear Solid 4” (which I assume is what you meant) are not the same thing.

        • Obviously im talking about metal gear soild 4: Guns of the patriots, i dont see the need of adding one extra word (or a subtitle). That you understand what game i was talking about proves it

Then tell me another game that has that quality of graphics, oh, and also, it cant be released for xbox360 as well

          • gatotsu911

If you want to talk about Metal Gear Solid 4 without spelling it out, there’s actually an easier way that won’t make Metal Gear fans cringe: “MGS4”.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re getting at with all these graphics bullcrap here. Are you suggesting that any PS3 game that isn’t MGS4 gets a pass for having subpar graphics? That most PS3 games have graphics of a similar level of quality (or lack thereof) to Neptunia? Because the first is wrong, and the second is untrue. If you’re talking about PS3 games with good graphics, what difference does it make whether they came out on 360? Whatever. You want to know a PS3 EXCLUSIVE with graphics as good as MGS4? I’ll give you two: Uncharted 2 and God of War III. Now, I’m aware that not every development studio has the budget and resources of Konami or Sony, so I’m not going to hold a game from a comparatively small developer up to the standards of the big-budget studios, but honestly, this game barely looks any better than a PS2 title. What’s the point of even putting it on PS3 if it’s not going to take advantage of the hardware? Not to mention, there are ways of making a game look good without just exploiting powerful hardware (e.g. cel-shading or other stylized looks), and this game is not attempting any of them. So I hardly think it’s unfair to call out this game for looking, comparatively, like crap.

          • “I’m not entirely sure what you’re getting at with all these graphics bullcrap here”
            Look who is talking?

If you are aware, then you are also aware that these two games are also non-japanese games, and we all know that in graphics these series are the most important part (specially for non japanese audience/gamemakers). We are talking about japanese games here… if you didnt noticed the moe girls everywhere.
(PS: Metal Gear 4 is a japanese game, i dont know what other thing you think metal gear 4 is but i dont know anything else, if you search google “metal gear 4” im sure the first thing you will find is about metal gear solid 4: Guns of the patriot)

What’s the point on putting it on the ps3?

I dont know why the hell everyone think graphics is the only thing the ps3 can give, the interface, the amount of data it can process at the same time is highly superior, a game made for the ps3 doesnt mean, “Ohh pretty graphics” it also mean to play on a stable console, where the loading parts of the games will be short, where we can play without worrying of “error reading the disc”, where we can have a lot of content in just one disc, where we can even download extra stuff easily for the game.

On the ps2, the latest games just made the ps2 give so many spins to the dvd that it was scary, even the sound made you think the ps2 was about to explode, also the loading screen and lag in battles really bother, the space limit the developoers had with each dvd, on the ps3, or later gen consoles, developers can make battles, or anything at all with more freedom.

I dont have anything againts you for not liking this game, but graphics is something you shouldnt talk about so lightly

          • GamerKT

            Uncharted 2.

          • Japanese -.-‘

          • GamerKT

            Umm, the Yakuza series?

          • Seriously? you are better of with uncharted 2, Yakuza 4 is like a higher level and more stilized style of GTA, you seriously cant compare this to this and all the metal gear’s video is gameplay, no stylized scenes

    • gatotsu911

I like how my post contained a small paragraph regarding the style and tone of the game, and then two short sentences critical of its graphics, and all the responses I’m getting are exclusively about that part. Stay classy, Siliconera community.

    • malek86

“Rather than going the much more sensible path of silliness and self-mockery, this game instead appears to be going for straight-faced otaku-baiting”

Did you really think otherwise? I mean, come on. Take a look at the current state of Japan’s entertainment industry: moe anime, other moe anime, still other moe anime, fanservice anime, fanservice manga, moe videogame…

      • gatotsu911

Was it wrong of me to hope? To dream?

    • RupanIII

When I first read the premise I thought it sounded like it could be a clever satire of sorts.. oh well.

  • Phoenix_Apollo

I’m not too fond of the English dub, but that won’t really stip me from eventually acquiring this game. Though, I feel like I’m playing Sakura Wars again.

  • maxchain

Dual-language? NickyD, I raise my glass to you–your company knows its finicky audience.

  • This game already looks horrible. The awful English dub just made even more unbearably lame. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse. :/
