Use Vincent’s Powerful Pillow To Smack Monsters In Catherine

By Spencer . December 28, 2010 . 2:33am

There’s more to the action part in Catherine than platforming and puzzle solving. Atlus put enemies in the levels like this bird. Before it pushes Vincent off the tower, you have to defeat it with your pillow.

Sheep, seen in many Catherine trailers, are a common enemy. These stray herbivores will try to bump Vincent to his doom too. You can use your pillow to hit them or an item by pressing square. Items have different effects, like a multi-hit lightning attack as seen in these screenshots.

You have to get an S-rank (or best rank, or some other very hard achivement) on all levels after completing the game a second time (which is an even harder).

At keast that’s what I imagine what it would take for that to happen.

      • Testsubject909

Nah, for all that trouble, you’d get a steamy harem ending.

I want to get the Famitsu deluxe ver for the posters, A3 is huge! (but don’t know how to order them)… recently I’ve gotten the Scott Pilgrim’s precious boxset poster..

http://ebten.jp/famitsu/p/s/7015010121801/ is the order page for the DX sets. I don’t think the Enterbrain store accepts foreign credit cards, but I’m sure a proxy buyer like Celga, Tenso or Crescent Shop could get it if you’re that interested. :)

      • Aoshi00

Thanks, I did click on the link before, but on the order page you need to be registered as a member and I see they need you to put in a Japanese address and such, also I don’t see them mentioning anything about shipping overseas on their FAQ page.. I still don’t know how these proxy buyer things work, do they charge a lot of fee? I want the bonus, but if the fees are too expensive then it’s not worth it.. there are things I can’t order on my own, like the Deathsmiles drama CDs because most sellers on yahoo Jpn auction never ship outside Jpn and they don’t take paypal..

BTW, I really appreciate you recommending AmiAmi for shmups, for the LEs their price is much much better. I wish I had known about them sooner. Not that they’re cheap, but you save what you can :)

        • http://honorless.net honorless

Basically you point the proxy buyer at that page, tell them which of the packs you want to buy, and they take care of the rest…including signing up for an account if necessary. I’ve ordered games off Amazon.jp that way through Crescent Shop.

…But yeah, the fees can add up. I think Celga would only charge you $10 or $12 for their “buying service” because the item is under 10000 yen, but there’s the 5% sales tax, shipping from Japan to the buyer (if Enterbrain doesn’t do free shipping) then shipping from the buyer to you, and then the horrible USD-JPY exchange rate. :(

          • Aoshi00

Ah.. gotcha.. yea, the fees do sound expensive w/ tax and the current exchange rate.. I’ll look those up (Crescent Shop/Celga) if I ever do come across something that I must have but can’t get on my own. Thanks for the pointers.

          cool story bro

I suppose it’s fitting that a guy who’s walking around in his underwear in a block world full of talking lambs uses a pillow as his weapon of choice.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Its gonna feel weird in cutscenes having him in his underwear on the screen, lol. The lightning attacks look awesome, dude!!!!

It’s only weird if you make it weird. ;o

I look forward to playing this game in the company of friends and family.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

What, lol, maybe if he can be outfitted with different costumes, I could understand if the main character were awesome, but, well hm.

Come on, you know you’d love it if it were a thong-clad Vaan.

        • Exkaiser

No, no, it’s a Japanese game, so it would be a fundoshi.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Is that what those diaper-thong things are called? Oh my gods, thank you! I’ve been trying to figure that out for years!

          • http://twitter.com/OhKeh OhKeh

The Japanese have like a word for everything.

Google “ahoge” and “zettai ryouiki” for soem examples.

          • Testsubject909

Just to add to Keven’s Ahoge. There’s also Ahegao.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Dude, that would be kind of awesome actually, lol

          • Guest

            Straight?

  • HarryHodd

This game never fails to impress me in how different it is. Can’t wait to bash stuff with a pillow.

  • Darkrise

That pillow had better turn out to be a some shap-shifting sword or something later on.

    • http://twitter.com/OhKeh OhKeh

I could imagine what that “something later on” will be…But don’t get my “hopes” up like that.

    • http://twitter.com/menacing_zero menacing_zero

*Pff* I say Vincent is completely badass. No armor and barely any clothes, he still manages to dispatch his enemies using only a pillow.
