imageMilestone makers of… um… Twinkle Queen are making Nintendo 3DS games too. One of their early titles is actually a port. Karous 3DS is in development for Nintendo’s next handheld.

You may have seen Karous before as a Dreamcast game and later one of the titles in Ultimate Shooting Collection. Karous 3DS is slated for a summer release in Japan.

Their first title is set for spring and its Tank Beat sequel. Tank Beat 3 is in the pipeline, but no details about the game have been announced other than its genre, "tank battle action."

    Is this English?

It’s a 2D shooter, so it’s not at all reliant on being able to understand text. A button for shoot, a button for alternate attack, and a button for bomb. Avoid bullets. Any Japanese text that does show up isn’t important to being able to fully enjoy the game.

Milestone only releases in Japan though, they’d have to have another publisher pick up the game for localization (like UFO for the US Milestone Shooting Collection, or O3 for the US Gamecube Chaos Field).

And we don’t know if 3DS games are region locked, but there are strong suspicions that it is (unlike DS or GBA).

  • The 3DS would be awesome for vertical shooters! Just think of the depth it would add.
