Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked Timed For Stateside Release

By Spencer . January 19, 2011 . 7:49am

imageOne of the launch window RPGs Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned for the Nintendo 3DS is probably Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked.

The enhanced port of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor will be released in North America. While the game doesn’t have a set release date, Nintendo of America says it’s coming "soon."

New features in Devil Survivor Overclocked include voice acting, at least twenty more demons to capture, and a new episode titled the "8th day."

This probably means I have to buy an American 3DS to play this since the asshats in Nintendo decided to put region lock in the console. I see no hope for EU release since the original was never published here either.

Oh crap, you’re right! I had forgotten I imported it. I have a feeling we’re going to miss out on so much with a region lock.

Probably most Atlus games, pretty much any Xseed game, possibly some Aksys, even Nintendo, and I’ll also add all those games that do eventually come but much later than the USA release.

Our only hope is that Nintendo will allow full games to also be downloadable from 3DSware, and that somebody will take it upon themselves to bring the USA version in the european online shop too, like Persona on PSN.

        • jarrodand

I thought Rising Star (eventually) brought over most of Xseed’s stuff?

I don’t advocate piracy, but this is one of those cases where yeah, I think it’s okay to hack your console as soon as it becomes an option. So long as you’re planning on buying the games I see no problem with disabling the region lock if it’s possible.

      • PrinceHeir

Datel should definitely make a 3DS Ar Max that lets you read any game in any region, add some cheat codes i’ll buy 3 of those.

haven’t played devil survivor yet, i guess this is a good start ^^

I think you might be right. Which would be a shame if it doesn’t get an EU release because I was really looking forward to this…

  • Zero_Destiny

Wait, I’d figure Atlus would publish this, so is Nintendo sayin’ that on behalf of Atlus, or are they going all out and co-publishing everything now? XD I’m just going to assume it’s the first and Nintendo just wants people to get excited for the launch. On that note I thought Devil Survivor was more of an Tactics game than an RPG, makes me doubtful of the number of “RPGs” the 3DS will launch with.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Nintendo said this on behalf of Atlus. Atlus is still the publisher.

      • Zero_Destiny

I thought so, That’s cool though dose that mean Atlus is really going to publish it or is this just speculation?

        • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Not speculation, Atlus is the publisher.

          • Zero_Destiny

Yay, I guess that means there’s one more game I need on the 3DS. Thanks for the info.

If this is even locaizecd………yeah but he could be talking about paper mario 3ds or some other rpg.

          • Zero_Destiny

@Tanto I thought we were talking about USA since we were talking about Reggie Fils-Aime. Bummer.

          • PurpleDoom

@Tanto: It seems the game has been specifically mentioned in the press release, so unless “Devil Survivor: Overclocked” and “Paper Mario 3DS” are suddenly the same thing, it’s coming over. Most SMT games get localized anyway.

I can’t wait for this to come out 2 years ago

I love how they decided to go with freakibng voice acting over adding more content than 20 demons and “the 8th day”, which probably didn’t even take that long anyway.

    • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

I don’t know man, voice acting sounds actually very nice to me, and it’s just an enhanced port, not a sequel or a full new story or something.

    • DDanny

      Indeed.
I guess this port’s only saving grace will be a battle against YHVH in the 8th day.
And please, make the 8th day different for each route at least.

Although we dont know for sure if this is it……he could be talking paper mario or something

seems like siliconera jumped the gun abit

What, its in the press release for the 3DS, what else could be talked about?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Devil Survivor: Overclocked was part of Nintendo of America’s 3DS press release….

  • kylehyde

Apparently is kinda confirmed that this is the RPG game what Reggie was talking, at least acording to some nintendo representative.

  • cj_iwakura

    Uh, source?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I’m a little disappointed by this. You’ve been a reader here for a long time (I think?) so you (should?) know we wouldn’t fabricate this.

The Nintendo 3DS announcement says it:

      Nintendo 3DS also enjoys some of the strongest third-party support of any system launch. A partial list of titles coming soon to Nintendo 3DS includes Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked from Atlus; Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D from Capcom; Madden NFL Football from EA SPORTS; The Sims™ 3 from Electronic Arts;

  • Strain42

Why change it to OverclockED for the stateside release? Seems random and pointless…Overclock sounded fine. The word Clocked does not roll off the tongue very well…

how hard would be to port Persona 4 to N3DS ?

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I think the bigger issue is getting a control scheme for the 3DS for it, and providing additional content in the game to provide some benefit for having the dual display? (minigames maybe?) and extra “episode”?
